You can't look at his 27.0 last 200m and say that he was tying up in the home straight, because first of all, he was sitting on a tiring McBride for quite a ways after 600m on the outside--that is, waiting until the right moment to pass him, not because he couldn't pass him--and then after getting a clear separation he took the pedal off the metal and absolutely eased up in the last 20-30m. That right there was probably a high 1:42 in exactly the same circumstances but with McBride challenging him to the line.
