Stockton underrated? Please! He was a stat whore! Ooh wow, pick and roll, Stockton to Malone. All he did was pile up assists. He never won anything.
I say: Walter Johnson-The actual best pitcher of all time, yet gets overshadowed by Cy Young, because the award is named after him.
stock never got the recognition, malone did. stock is also the AT steals leader.
johnson, great choice.
Stockton a stat whore? How about the most unselfish player in the history of the NBA. He could have easily scored over 20 per game but realized he was most beneficial to his team when he was creating opportunities for others. You may not be immpressed witht he pick-and-roll but it worked, even when everyone in the arena knew they were going to do it.
you know your stuff. no one managed the floor as well as stock,
great mind, great vision.
Yes a stat whore. The stat he was whoring was assists.

Magic Johnson says hi.
Oscar Robertson, Larry Bird, Bob Cousy, Pete Maravich and Michael Jordan all wanted to say "Hi" as well.
Curtis Martin
i give my shout-out to one of the most underrated collegiate runners of recent times.
Jane Maxwell...
You probably haven't heard of her, that's how underrated she is, but her accomplishments at UVA include an ECAC victory in the 10K, an ACC victory in the 10k, 11th at NCAA Nationals in 10k, a regional qualifying time in the 5k and a few All-ACC, All-Regional Honors, etc. in XC.
also, a 2nd place finish in the Colonial Williamsburg Half-Marathon.
...all of this from a walk-on who anything spectacular in high school (i.e. only one sub-19 5k).
...funny, but kind of sad that her local paper's sportswriters never managed to spell her name right or give her more than 2 lines of text, while they managed to write full-page articles on two other local runners: one who ran a 17:40-something 5k PR and another who finished 94th at DII nationals.
Nice name!
I nominate Babe Zaharias Didrickson.
Since we were just discussing this yesterday on the long run i nominate an athlete for most underrated performance of all time- Gary Bjorkland 2:13:xx win of Maryland Marathon in late 70s(which i have mentioned before on here i think). I was reminded of it again due to the Boston thread about how downhill running at the end of a marathon is very tough. This course was truly brutal. The guy i was running with did 2:29 at NY and 2:36 at Maryland. Rodgers won Maryland in 2:14 and the next spring did his 2:09:55 at Boston. Anyway 2:13 on that course is just crazy.
