No PTAs don't make $55k straight out of school. I believe the average starting out is around $30-32k a year. Home health does pays more, but they usually don't hire new grads cause of lack of experience (home health ptas are on there own). Occasionally a home health agency will hire a new grad if you did a clinical with them or your just real good or they need help pretty bad (which is common).
If you want to work in a different state you have to apply to that state to get a new license. You can be licensed in more than 1 state at one time, but then you have to keep up with the different states license regulations (continuing ed., fees)
