I'm not a "train in flats all the time" devotee but I use the Elites for virtually all my easy/steady road running whether fast or slow. I find they have more than enough cushioning for me. Indeed I can't recall too many better cushioned shoes I've used.
I would not use them for track work as find them a bit too bulky and heavy for 10K and under speed work. A racing flat they are not. I do wear flats for sessions.
I would say if you are happy with one shoe and can get it again, stick with it. Certainly I would not buy a model on a recommendation here without firt going and try it yourself first down your local running store.
I wear my normal size in the Elites although they do seem very marginally smaller than other shoes I've had of my size. They do come up fairly narrow which is good for me as my feet are quite narrow.
