Why no black page????
Why no black page????
Sadly, I think this might be true. I put our best chances of a medal on Galen Rupp in the marathon and he might not even run the race. If he does run the race he's probably got about a 3% chance of earning a medal.

I love T&F, but I can see why no one wants to watch. That race was not at all exciting, in terms of Emma Coburn. She never was in contention for the win.
While I respect the performance placed into context, the fact we are not competitive with the Africans is killing interest.
What about Emma in a little black dress? Or just a little black bunhugger? Or maybe just 100% Emma?
Would Jager get a black page if he ran 7:59 and finished 3rd, 10 seconds behind the leader?

No, because the new WR holder would get it.

Touché.
Well what if Emma sets the AR another 3 times this season. Does she get a black page every time?
Not sure how democratic this whole thing is, but I vote no on this instance.

I think I remember Jager getting a splash page for the race he fell down, got second and didn't break 8. It was an AR like Coburn.
Here it is brah...

Why not, Ritzenhein got one for running 12:56 and finishing third.
Does letsrun give a black page honoring female runners for anything other than prostitution?
smh
For those who don't remember, yes, they did a black page for the breaking news about Suzy.
An AR is an AR. It still counts if it didn't win the race.
Keni Harrison more deserving of a page. AR and #2 all-time.

This is a disturbing thought. In the Johnsons defense, they did give one to Jenny Simpson for winning the World Championship in 2011.
However, looking at who gets a black page for an AR and who doesn't it seems white, male underdogs who set AR's get black pages.
Ritzenhein/Solinsky (1 AR each) -- right color, right sex, right status
Bernard Lagat (2 ARs) -- wrong color
Evan Jager (2 ARs) -- wrong status
Galen Rupp (2 ARs) -- wrong status
Molly Huddle (2 ARs) -- wrong sex
Shannon Rowbury (1 AR) -- wrong sex
Emma Coburn -- ?
That was in extremely poor taste, and speaks to the maturity of the site owners (and thereby encourages immature behavior from the site users) when Suzy Favor-Hamilton got a black page but not a number of other female runners for their you know, actual running accomplishments.
A number of women do read this site but unsurprisingly make sure to never reveal their gender or anything that would give away their identity. Who can blame them? Letsrun needs to get some women onto their "staff."
I respect Coburn's accomplishment, but I will honestly say that women's sports just aren't that exciting/competitive compared to men's. Enough with the political correctness. How long has the women's steeple even been a competitive event?
I don't like the attempt to shame the site into artificially putting up a black front page. This site is more concerned with mid-dist/dist. and (as are all general sports media) more concerned with men's sport.
Finally, yes, I think the misogynistic/objectification of women stuff on here is bad and pretty immature for some middle aged guys to allow (and even occasionally promote) on their site.

Why is it so bad to admire the physical beauty of a talented woman? Get over yourselves. She's pretty, fast and good for the sport.
Try it at work and let us know.
Letsrun is sexist is the answer.

Maybe I used the wrong word. Non-underdogs. Not surprising that they set ARs.
