Wheating is just terrible. Dude needs to leave OTC ASAP and run in a grittier environment.
OTC is such a farce. All those guys are like girls and they spend more time taking pics of their workouts than doing the workout. They probably race the workouts too, and blow their load before the actual races.
Wheating and OTC Are Really Bad

Does any American have a faster 5K than the OTC's Hassan Mead at the moment?

That's one guy my man. I was talking about the big squad of mid distance guys that are stagnant or losing their mojo. Rowland lost his mojo when he took on too many schmoes. -

Blankenship is also running really well. -
Ben Blankenship and Mo Aman ran pretty well today too. Pat Casey has also been running well recently.
Don't disagree with you on Wheating. He went straight to the back and stayed there. No reason for him to be in that race.
I wouldn't call the team really bad, but there are definitely some who have been disappointing as of late. -
Too busy making t shirts that say "Row Knows"
-
Jock, Wheating, Greer, Fleet, Mcnamara, Mulder, Ciaran, Abda...yikes
Aman has gotten worse since arriving
Blanketship had one good year last year
Good thing Mead isnt a mid D guy or he'd be doing good the workouts that are making the other guys suck...row probably doesn't write his training. -
Anyone know what their mid-d guys' workouts are? They seem to be doing something fundamentally wrong with ALL their guys crapping out.
-
The OTC is where talent goes to die.
-
So which US based training group outperformed them?
-
Blankenship 3:53.83 Mile
Mead 13:04.17 5000m
Aman 1:44.7 800m
Yeah, they suck you moron. -

Aman stopped training with the OTC after 2015 ended. -

So they are taking it easy and working too hard at the same time!
Wheating should get a job though. He was better in college & going full time does not suit everyone. He is the perfect example of why youblot should not get over excited about college runners & times. Often they never improve on leaving. -
Some of these comments are spiteful.

Or don't just sign with Nike because of the cool gear and you can tell your friends and family you're a pro.
Picking a coach and training partners is most important. -
lets check the receipt.

I think though, what matters to many of us here is consistency which has not been present amongst these athletes. While guys like wheating have gotten up for the olympics in '12 he hasn't done anything since. Its hard to find the right comparison, without which this data means very little, but just thinking about BTC, it seems like those guys are more consistent. Perhaps Row might know something but he doesn't always seem to know. Guys like mulder currently running horribly and Jock has just been lackluster since winning NCAAs. where has the dominant form of Elijah Greer gone? we cannot be dismissive of their successes post-collegiately but it is certainly less impressive to be good for one season than to be good for many years if this is your full time job. -
There is a flotrack workout video of wheating at altitude in which I assume was filmed in like jan or feb of a certain year recently and the workout was 4x400 and 4x300 or something similar to that. If this was done at altitude and early in base phase this just a crap workout... Not enough volume... In the video they appeared get tons of rest. Just stupid. More of a anereobic workout one does at the end of the year
-
Why is Jock in this training group?
-
You obviously don't know much about training or about Flotrack videos. You cannot take one workout and really believe that is what they are doing all the time. Maybe Wheating needed something like that in a rest week. You just can't take a workout out of context and think you know what is right for a particular athlete.

Agree, Jock is a long sprinter and they are trying to turn him into a distance runner. 6 weeks in Flagstaff training with the milers is just stupid for a guy like him. He was better in college off of 15 miles a week and running both open and relay 400's. Nike forced him to OTC and now an entire 4 year Olympic cycle has been wasted unless something miraculous happens.
