Oregon 6A State Championships 3000m !!

Incredibly deep! Some absolutely outstanding performances. Mestler certainly deserves the distinction of "HS Distance God" for a performance equivalent to a sub-9 3200. Mestler won in 8:34 last year. The men's 6A 3000 was won in 8:39 in 2014. 8:36 was the winning time in 2013.

Truly outstanding. The women's side has seen a similar increase in depth. The rise to prominence of Bowerman Youth Track Club and Catholic track programs for middle schoolers may have contributed to this growth. The influence of the Schumacher siblings (yes, Jerry's kids) who both ran well in the 6A 3000 today may also be a contributing factor.

I haven't followed Oregon track for many years and it's difficult to find online results very far back, but this year was especially deep.

Also surprised to see how Central Catholic has fell in these last couple years. They still have a solid team, but nowhere near where they were a couple years ago.

The 2014 race may have been slow, but Reilly Bloomer covered the last 1k in ~2:37 so it's safe to say that he could have ran much faster. I think a good portion of that field could've ran sub 8:40.

6A? Oregon has 6 different state meets?

I never understood this. CA has one meet. Why all these divisions in smaller states?

No one gives a crap about the smaller divisions. 5A only gets the nod because Matthew Maton raced in 5A with Summit.

Fixed.

The past participle of the verb "to run" is "RUN". It would be nice if people in this sport got this right.

In a similar vein, the past tense and past participle of "to lead" are "LED" (not "lead").

Jackson Mestler's parents, Rick and Jill, ran for the Ducks in the late 80s or early 90s. Jackson will attend UO next fall. There are more Mestler kids growing up who may be as good as Jackson.

Because there is also a team component to many state track meets. I agree that there should be all class races for individuals so there is a true single state champ in every event, and not just the meaningless distinction of best time. Back to the original subject, yes that's a very deep race. Several athletes there could end up running D1 in college.

They have 6 divisions to make everyone a winner. More divisions allows smaller schools to not have to compete against bigger ones. It also forces schools to travel much farther because their leagues are so small and more spread out. Back in 2000 there were only 4 divisions which made more sense, but oh well.
