If your idea of 'support' is turning up to destroy the other runners then sure.
Farah would have totally ruined the race.

He could have just shown up and not run. Or run and rabbit the race for a while before either easily winning or dnf. It's called giving back to the sport and your countrymen.
You don't want to run a lot of extra 10000s in a season. He doesn't have to run this to qualify, because that's not their system. What would be the point in beating everyone by a minute, or, more entertainingly, jogging with the crowd and then dropping a 50.xx last lap?

no chance coe wouda won in '88
he had 7th fastest time of year in 1'43.9 & he got crushed in that race as well !! to barbosa's 1'43.3

Bingo Metro Milo.
Totally.
When Mo do the Moboto he show no respect…no respect.
Moboto ridiculo!
Under the selection policy he has to run the Trials for 5000m (as far as I can understand the selection policy document), but 10000m are treated differently.

What a waste of everyone's time that would be. Come back from America mid season, week before a major race, to watch the Highgate Harriers Night of the 10k PBs.
This is England, nobody is going to be pleased a celebrity has turned up to say 'look everyone I'm here' and try and steal some of the thunder away from the competitors.
Jogging and then dropping out as if to say 'I could win but can't be arsed' is even more disrespectful.
Complete waste of time.
If Farah wanted to watch the race in person he could have gone but he cannot be expected to attend every domestic race as a spectator to offer 'support'. He is an athlete in the middle of training. What a ridiculous notion.
People here try to find any excuse to hate on Farah.
I was talking about the 1500m obviously.... not the 800m!!!

Doesn't defending champion get a free ticket?

there was no chance of gold in 1500
rono ran race of his life in shape of his life with a ~ 3'35 run with long run for home ~ 2 laps out !!! & 52-high finish !!!
that is not inconsistent with a guy in ~ 3'31 shape perhaps even 3'30 in an ideal paced circuit 1500
coe's fastest of year was in legendary rieti with 3'35.7 for only 3rd getting walloped by di napoli by 1.0s !!!
the clamour for coe was more manifest when aouita & abdi weren't in 1500 final which gave whoever won a default gold
with them in field & healthy, they wouda likely duked it out for gold with rono 3rd & same order behind rono
Ventolin, could Coe have survived the first round?
Of course he would have survived the rounds....
He would have a special preparation before the Games like he did in the USA before LA in 1984!
