If it hadn't been said yet...
"Dear Mama" by Tupac Shakur
Van Morrison and Bob Dylan. For a single album John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band
This post was removed.
She doesn't get enough credit for being a good vocalist. But the first time I heard this song on the radio I fell in love with it. Is It A Crime by Sade. I saw her and the band perform this live a few years ago on a rare tour and the dynamic was superb and I was reminded that Sade is more than a solo artist but is in fact a band.

Three year old post and nobody mentions Jason Isbell.
Guess you guys love the classic rock station in your one stoplight towns.
Some great choices on this thread, but I'm with this guy. Definitely, the best of this era IMHO.
Just watched his online concert tonight where he and Amanda played his entire album. Great stuff.
The Great Divide by John Martin Doyle
And let's all be honest ....emotion?
Universally, and I dare any man/woman/android to disagree...
No song brought out more emotions through the piano, chosen key and overall composition than Michael Martin Murphey's "Wildfire."
it's nearly impossible to capture any more pathos song than this.
Kelly Clarkson 's "A Moment Like This"...American Idol winner performance is #2.

Good calls.
Bob Dylan on “Tears Of Rage” from the Basement Tapes...
Maybe post a link to "Bob Dylan on “Tears Of Rage” from the Basement Tapes."? I listened to every version of Dylan playing that song I could find on You Tube, and i have to say, mentioning him in the same sentence with Van Morrison in terms of vocals (emotion) is a stretch to me at least. Don't get me wrong, i really like Dylan, but his vocals are not his strength.
Van Morrison, on the other hand. I just don't know how he does it. The man wrote the book.
For raw emotion conveyed in singing, it's hard to top Bruce Springsteen.
the world's greatest actor performs the best song ever ;)
I'm surprised no one had yet mentioned Janis Joplin, though I found her crude.
I'd like to nominate Kate Smith's rendition of "God Bless America."
