Did anyone see this twitter exchange between Lee Troop and one of the pace coaches for a local running group. Apparently, the track in Boulder everyone works out on, pros and recreational runners, is now closed to the public because the recreational group would show up with way too many people and clog up all the lanes. Pretty interesting exchange:
Yawn. What a freaking bitch fight. Public schools receive public taxpayer funding. Sure tracks and tennis courts can and should be reserved for HS team use and for PE during school hours but should never close aside from this. I would jump the fence too.
Millennials will solve this. Allegedly they're shutting down the running boom.
My club does pay for things like school gym rental time to do some specific drills in the winter but we don't pay for track usage. Maybe paying for track time should be a thing.
However this Lee Troop character is in the wrong because he improperly used the word "Your" when he meant "You're" or "you are" on the internet, and is therefore in the wrong. His argument is therefore invalidated.
Dang, no wonder you get the hairy eyeball when you run in Boulder. Is one group more hobby jogger than the other?

Already the case where I live, public use of high school facilities while not directly prohibited is strongly frowned upon. Troop will have to use the cu track.
The runner ought to be careful talking so much smack on Twitter. I prefer to handle things offline in a polite way, but most guys I know wouldn't stand for that kind of passive-aggressive BS on Twitter. Plus, the guy gets called out on his runners breaking the rules, too, and he just says, "Yeah well AD doesn't like you so take it up with him." I feel sorry for whoever that guy is, he seems to have some real social problems.

This. There is a public HS in my town that charges something really low, like $75 for a 2-Hour session and it just basically covers a school security guard. I think it has to be during a certain time (when the team is not practicing). It would be kind of pricey if you just wanted to run on your own, but it is next to nothing for a running group doing track workouts. I think it is a good idea.
Is this Troop guy paid by these runners to be their coach? If so, he needs to pay to use the track or build his own on his own property. These for-profit running and fitness groups are proliferating like the plague. Everyone who is halfway fit wants people to pay them and just use public property for their own profits. uhh, "this Troop guy" is a former Olympic runner and it is my understanding his running group is a handful of elite runners. Is there Congressional or state legislation somewhere that a user of public property must pay a fee if they get paid for what they do?
Use of a high school track is usually at the discretion of the school or school district, not an internet troll. But by all means explain yourself further.
This is actually a pretty big deal in Boulder. Fairview is really the only track to use in Boulder. CU's track is open 2 times a week for a few hours in the morning and doesn't allow spikes. A few runners/triathletes use the track at Niowt High School in Longmont, however word is the school isn't too thrilled about it. We will see what happens when more people start showing up there. That option may be shut down soon.
Without access to Fairview track, Boulder isn't really a viable place to train for track runners.
As for "this Troop guy." He has at least 4 athletes that have qualified for the trials, including Laura Thweatt who has a legitimate shot at making the Olympic team. No track 6 weeks out from the trials because of a group of people who really have no need for a track would piss me off too.

I'd be happy to pay $75 to have the track for myself for two hours while the guard closed off the hobby joggers.
Bummer for Boulder. There are also open tracks in Fort Collins and in the Denver area, so all is not lost. Also check Golden and School of Mines.
Checked out the stats on this other coach. 4:02 mile and 29x 10K, that's pretty much hobby jogger level for Boulder, if not Letsrun.

You are talking about 45-60+ minute drives. Might work to get through the trials but it's not viable.
Yeah, but is the track closed only through school year? Has anyone met with AD?
Golden is only 20 min from South Boulder.
Which group got everyone banned? What did they do to get everyone kicked out? Just having a lot of people on the track in and of itself doesn't seem like something to get the entire community banned, maybe just that group. Sounds like more was going on here...
From the tweets looks like the group with "broader" appeal had a session the other day, and some 80 or so folks hopped the fence while the school's AD was watching. Wasn't there, so maybe a witness or 2nd hand individual in the know can elaborate.
Don't know if this was during school hours or what. Maybe this can be smoothed out, so there are "user hours" and group size limits.
Revolution Running got everyone banned. They are a large (not sure of exact numbers but maybe 100-200 people) for profit running group. The administration was upset that they jumped the locked gates, go to the bathroom in plain sight behind the bleachers and tried to break into the locked bathrooms. They pretty much ignored every rule and show no respect for the track.
