Folks, everyone says that there is no way to predict future success for a young girl, but I think this one is the real deal... a Mary Decker...
Go ahead and rip on me, I don't care.

WOW, i'm an 8 grade guy and I ran a 4:56 as a 7 grader. Thus, i've been to a handfull of big meets and the best i've seen an 8 grade girl do was 5:40. I agree this girl is the real deal.
Briana has more talent than her. But, where did Briana go?

Briana never had this kind of speed. Briana was highly trained, getting up at 5:00 AM many mornings. She was a product of a ruthless training and racing schedule kept up for years. This girl is not like that at all.
This girl hasnt done speed training yet. She's still doing her base workouts from winter!!!
I saw a 7th grade girl run a 5:16 mile at a road race last fall. No one is making a big deal out of it because the locals all know it is a long road from being a 13 yr old to a mature elite runner.
yikes! did you see how ripped her arms are in that pic and her tan! looks like a bodybuilder
The 17:06 5K is old news. She ran 16:49 and 16:44 shortly after that.
She made a believer out of me when she blew away the open field at the Shoreline XC meet in Mountain View in October. Yes, there have been a lot of flashes that didn't pan out but the flip side is that the great ones (Decker, Favor, Jennings, Jacobs) did show their greatness early and I think Hasay is on her way to joining that short list.
That's quite freaky. It looks bad enough in running gear, but imagine being at an 8th grade party and being that muscley in a dress!
Wait till she grows boobs and hips.
Puberty will hit her like a ton of bricks. You guys need to stop getting all hot and bothered by pre-pubescent phenoms. When this girl runs sub-4:20 for the mile we can get all excited. Til then, take a cold shower.
16:44 can be a winning time in the boys freshman race at NE xc championships.
Do any of you ever stop and ask yourself, "How would a Mary Decker talent burst onto the scene?"
My guess is that she would burst onto the scene by running some startlingly fast times for her age, sometime between 7th and 9th grade. Yes, this girl is ripped. Yes, wait until she grows boobs and hips. But to me, this girl is unlike any we've seen in our country since Mary Decker.

These are the great ones? Someone please pick out the mentally stable/normal/well-adjusted one from this select group of head cases and drug cheats.
The price one pays for being defined as "great" is pathetic.

Sarah Schwald. And I continue to be impressed by Allison Felix (as opposed to Jones). But your point is made. It is a rocky road indeed.
Wouldn't a sub 4:20 girls mile be close to the WR...may want to rethink that one chief.

Um, yeah it would be....THAT'S my point exactly. Sub-4:20 for a female in the mile IS something to get excited about. A 4:51 by an eight grade girl is NOT.
Deena should talk to her parents about sun screen!
It depends on circumstance.
4:51 by a highly trained girl at her peak is not something to get too excited about, but a 4:51 in her first race of the season, before doing speedwork is, especially when this girl has run 16:44 in a 5K, breaking the previous age-level road-race 5K by about a minute.
Get a clue.
This girl reminds me of Georgie Clarke from Australia, and could be a world class junior by 9th or 10th grade.
