Anyone know?
Anyone know?
yes.
I was considering running a marathon on September 18, 2016 and was hoping I could use it to qualify for the Boston Marathon in 2018.
Will September 18, 2016 be in the qualifying window for 2018?
Pro tip: The organizers of the race, the BAA, maintains a web site with all the rules and even has contact information should you find the need to ask them anything.
Perhaps it would be worth a few minutes of your time to, you know, check the source of the rules for a faster response?
I've looked for this information as well, I could not find it anywhere on the BAA website. You'd think it would be prominently posted.
They announce it in June
The BAA web page states the window for the 2017 Boston Marathon began on September 19, 2015 which was the 3rd weekend of September.
Therefore, most likely, for 2018 it will also be the 3rd weekend of September.
Thus, if history can be used as a guide in this case, the September 18, 2016 marathon would be valid for 2018.
I believe the window opens on Jan 1, 2018. This is a new process they are trying out in 2018. They are looking for fast recovery marathoners in 2018. So the early calendar marathons should be fairly competitive in 2018.
Good luck and don't let dust collect on your treads.

You are da man bro !
This makes sense. Thanks for the info.
Not saying they will do this - but with the qualifiers needing to run at least 2:28 under their time, it's possible they could lower the standard again. If they did this, the next marathon affected would be 2018.
In my opinion, I think they should. Maybe make it 3-4 minutes faster. That way runners who run well in October/November can earn a slot in Boston that next spring.
I'm going to do Boston in 2018 - probably my last marathon.
have to find a mellow certified marathon this fall to qualify with
Last time the BAA lowered the standards, it was announced on marathon weekend. Since marathon weekend has passed, I think we might be safe to assume that the BAA is happy with the current standards / registration procedures - at least through the qualifying window that will open in September.
Also, with the heat in Boston this year, we might expect that the cut will be closer to the baseline BQs.
HobbyJ - agreed on that last point.
I know a lot of people who are 250s or faster and had a TERRIBLE day and are now going to be scrambling to run something by the opening deadline.
I also believe that the standards will stay the same.
If the BAA lowered each age group by 5 minutes then the marathon possibly would not fill up.
I would think the BAA would want every spot filled but possibly they would welcome a smaller field.
I'm pretty sure the race would still fill with a 5-min across the board tightening - it might just take the fall season of marathons to do it. It's filling now with 12 months worth of qualifying races. I don't think 5 minutes would mean it wouldn't fill within the 18-month qualifying window.
Holy F****ing Sh**. Employee 1.1 just broke 15:00 for 5000 for the 1st time at age 36.
