My guess is that they all assumed that Ches would run it and were hoping he would be exhausted for the 3k. He isn't and will only be running the 3k on day 2. This fake out may have handed Blake Haney and NCAA title in the mile.

I get Futsum and McGorty not running the mile. Knight also (his scratch helped two teammates get in) but does Isaic Yorks really think the 3 is better suited for him than the mile? A few people will be kicking themselves.
Some of it may have to do with Ches, but you also have to remember that some of these guys are going to be counted on by their coaches to anchor the DMR. That's probably the case for Yorks and McGorty. DMR (Friday) and 3k (Saturday) makes more sense than mile prelim (Friday), DMR (Friday), mile final (Saturday).
Is the field limit for the distances races 1500 and up 16?
I went to the NCAA site but got horribly lost and couldn't find that info.
If so if one is 17 or 18 on the list do you still go and hope for a scratch or "You missed the cut" they would run with 15 etc.?

No. If you don't get accepted you don't go. People scratch last minute or do no report for check in then they run the field with one less person.
Maybe they all agreed to make a really good 3000 race!
More than anything else it also helps teams with DMR aspirations with fresh guys and key anchors.
York, McGorty, Bile can all go DMR anchors fresh, Burcham will be doubling back, it would seem.Looks like Manahan also did not go in the 8. So will run Ole Miss DMR fresh.
Call me selfish, but in Yorks' position, I'd rather win an individual title. Washington won't be able to win the DMR aside from the other teams having a terrible race
The DMR almost . almost turns into the 1600 leg last 200M type thing. Even those ahead usually back up into the field. York can win from there,if he is that good.
I mean, the 3000 will be stacked but Ches should run away with it but the mile is so watered down! A 10k guy, Awad, is the #2 seed!
Yorks, Ches, McGorty, Futsum, Knight, Murphy, MacDonald all scratched probably thinking the road in another event would be easier. On top of that, guys like Noelle, Kidder, and Williamsz didn't even put up times to try and quality and they could easily win the 1500 outdoors.
The DMR anchor will be the true mile championships. It will be interesting to see what kind of team Oregon runs and if Ches pulls the 5k/1600 double like Rupp.
I hate the DMR.

Totally agree. I'd rather see the top studs battling in the individual events rather than sacrificing their individual races for the DMR.
Discuss predictions and thoughts on the unofficial thread!
Agreed. I'm definitely not as excited as I was before about watching indoor nats
Awad ran the 10k at Heps. He is a 15/5 guy.

So you do realize that schools have guys score for conference championships, then put them on a base building for a month before the long outdoor season...
Alumni ( me included) want to see a good conference score.
Indoor nationals is not as important as odd as that sounds.
For example my alma mater, a formerly high scoring SEC school has had their coach hang on too long.
Time to change and out of the Frye-ing pan he goes .

Can you provide an example?
Ches is running the 5K the first night and then coming back in the 3K the second night. In between (30 minutes after the 5K), he will likely anchor Oregon's DMR team. Just looking into it as an outsider, it seems that the Oregon coaches (with Ches' OK) have decided that Ches is strong enough to do this triple, though it will likely cost him a few spots in the 3k finish. This really does seem like Oregon is pulling out all the stops to try to win another team title - but they've done that before, and with success.
Not many okstate athletes apart from dmr and 2 or 3 individuals.
I predict that Wynne will win.
He is obviously very lucky to run in the first place, since his ranking was so low.
However, he is now seeded 14th.
He beat Hubbard (now seeded 11th) and Palamar (now seeded 13th) at ACC.
He also beat Knight in the DMR at ACC and split 3:56.3 for his 1600m leg. That's worth 3:57.7 over the mile distance, which only 4 of the runners in the NCAA field ran in an individual event.
