Mary Cain 4:13.46 for 6th in Ireland Today

Kerry O'Flaherty might be one of the best names I've seen in awhile,

At this rate she'll be competitive in another 11 days, and a world beater within a month.

Took her long enough to start competing half respectable again. So far she has been a complete bust.

The meet was streamed on ESPN3 in the US, I turned it on at work today to see why ESPN had a random Irish track meet on and caught almost the entirety of the 1500. Cain ran in fourth place for most of the race but never looked relaxed and faded a bit over the final 400.

She looks smaller, I have a suspicion Cain is simply rounding into shape.

No. Dibababa ran 4:13.31. I believe and Cane ran 4:13.46. So Cane is slower

And Dibaba ran a mile while Cain ran a 1500...

Nice run for Cain here. She will be back this year. Sub 4:10 first outdoor will be needed though!

What happened to her being in college?

looking at results it seems like a good effort compared to the 4:20 last week.

looking at the competition:

Alison Leonard of GB beat her by 2 sec. and had to run a new personal best to do it, meaning she's probably in peak condition to get ready to try for World Indoors and has a PB in 800 of 2:00.08.

Rose Anne Galligan of Ireland ran 4:11:07 to beat her, also running a new personal best and has a PB in 800 of 2:00.58. Also prime shape for World Indoors.

Of those behind her,

Krebs ran 4:15.89 (about 2 sec. behind Mary) and has a PB of 4:06.01

Sujew ran 4:16.59 behind her but has a PB of 4:05.62

Seems maybe some are gearing for World Indoors and some are starting to round more into outdoor track shape. I'm guessing not all runners have the same season goals.....

If I were a betting person, I would bet Mary and her crew are gearing on a longer outdoor season and getting her ready to perform when it counts outdoors. If I were her I would be happy knowing that some that beat me in this race had to run PB's to do it.

I watched the race. She was among the leading group until the last lap. She is missing her kick. She used to run instinctively, now it looks like she is thinking about "proper" running form, so she looks stiff. I also think she should run a few 800M and even 400M races to help her get her speed back

That's not it at all.

11 days. She is now used to being in Europe. If she races in Europe again in another 11 days, it can be said she is trying to race herself into shape.

My guess is that she would drop another 7 seconds and hasn't lost anything from her best. Of course, she needs to improve this year to make any happy noise at all.

Pretty good points there. I bet her workouts are spot on also even compared to her great summer a couple of years back. , I mean that is how crucial confidence is. It was gone for a while.

True, but still under the old world record. I would certainly say that things are looking up for Mary Cain.

She probably should hold off training speed work until she really needs in later in the season. For now her speed work should just be keeping up in the races. I agree she should be holding back a little now.
