My friend and I did an LT run- that is a 30 minute run at a comfortably hard effort. Our effort is probably close to 5:30/mile, although in reality it is 6:00/mile or even slower due to the winter conditions & excess clothing we have to wear.
This time my friend, 19 years old, wore a heart rate monitor. We found that It never got past 170 BPM, and averaged just around 165....
I've heard before that maximum heartrate is 220-age, thus his should be 201 in theory- and I've heard that Lactic threshold pace should be 85% of maximum heartrate, meaning that his heartrate should have been a consistent 171 BMP?
Does it look like he was running hard enough? Or too hard?
-thanks
