Is it me or are the newer nike pegasis a bit more firm than older models. Is this true or is it the cold ass temperatures just making them feel hard?

I've got the new Pegasus and they feel as cushioned as ever to me. Maybe you got into some bad EVA.
The new Pegasus are actually a little firmer than the Peg 2000. This was at the request of runner's who felt the 2000 model was a little too soft in the midsole. good on them for listening, by the way the 2002 model is awesome as is the Stormy equivqlent.
The new Peg is built on a completely different last than the 2000. New fit is the Span last: too roomy for some; doesn't have the transition bouncey feel I liked in the former model. Looks nice, but I say Nike blew a great shoe. They better hire Mike McManus away from adidas !
word, i have the new pegasus now and they're just fine, but i definately liked the soft feel of the 2000's better. sheeit.
I also thought the Peg 2000 was too smushy (esp. in the forefoot), but I haven't tried the new version yet. Maybe after my Mizuno Wave Precisions wear out, although I might just get another pair of those. They are sweet!
The new Pegasus are both wider, bulkier and HEAVIER. They had a few pairs of the old 2000s left at Road Runner Sports up until this week. Should have got some. I checked the weight on those-it was listed at 11.7. The 2002 Pegasus is listed at 12.2. I am a 46 yr old mid pack runner who is starting to realize that wheight makes all the difference in the world. I used to be able to run 4 mile tempo runs fairly easily in under 28 min. with the old shoes. I tried this workout once with the 2002s and it damned near killed me. I may as well have gone to a race. Somebody please recommend a good neutral shoe between 10.5 and 11.5 ounces.
Give me a break, Rick.
Perception is reality. The only thing the new pegasus has in common with the old one is the name. Since shoes are the only equipment a runner needs it would be nice if manufacturers could supply a product with consistent specs for more than 6 to 12 months at a time.
Asics DS Trainers
best shoes ever
about 10.5 oz.
small medial post, but for the most part a neutral shoe
fits like a glove
fells amamzing
try them out
Thanks. I will check those out.

No Rick. Reality is reality. I have weighed both the old and new Pegasus myself and they are the same to within a tenth of an ounce.
Listed weights are a farce. Never trust them.
There is a lot more in common between the two shoes than just the name.

Incidentally, you can still get the Peg 2000s online at Eastbay and a few other places. You can also get customized versions of the Peg 2000s at
http://nikeid.nike.com. You pay full price but you get to choose (optionally) a softer outsole which is really great
I also have weighed the 2000 and 2002: 2002 almost 1 ounce heavier.
It is a completely different shoe, stiffer and bulkier. New one is perhaps better than 2000 for some, but this is supposed to be a line of shoes that does not change radically.

Agreed. The old ones were light, plush, and fit like a glove. The new ones are none of the above.
I think I'm one of the few who prefer the new Pegasus. My foot's pretty wide, and although I'm a lighter guy (132#) I don't think they're that heavy. I have an old school pair of the Storm Pegs that I used for trails, and although there's a difference, I don't think it's that big. Maybe a little firmer, but compared to all of those motion control shoes out there, it's flexible and light as a feather. I also like how Nike is offering several different models of Pegs, though. I have the regular model for roads, the Storms for ice and snow and trails (Ithaca is no place to be in the winter), and they're coming out with a trail model in the spring (no Climafit, so your feet won't burn up). This is a line I'll stay with for a while.
I loved both of them....not much differance between the two. Seriously, no offense to most people out there, but i really think you guys can over analyze a bit. I mean, when i do a hard workout, I rarely think about ANY minor differances between models. Unless it owuld be a HUGE differance like an addition to a footbridge. They both worked for me. The only thing that is differant to me is the look, and the new pegasus are nice looking. What do you guys think of the new nike shox nz? Pros and cons?

Good to hear from you...you probably know that I hired a much faster sales rep (Simonich) to help service the SE, including Chattanooga, TN. Do you still have the B & B going on?
A few of us have been around long enough to recall the 1st Pegasus back in the 80's. One of my all time favorite running shoes was the first Skylon....just a wonderful shoe, great transition and forefoot cushion, no extra stuff needed on that "bad boy".
You must be on the final phase of training for Austin.
Good luck
Mike
Mike,
Hey,thanks for designing the new adi spikes in our Baylor colors of red and silver ! Yep, I'm in that freak-out doubtful stage before Austin's Moto. Resting pulse has been too high for months and I ran like kitty litter at Sac Nats. Maybe my 18 milers at marathon pace on the track were a bit of overkill.
Are you going to be at Motorola? Did you do HTC again?
Good to see that Jeff is back to running pretty well.
E-mail me with some of your 3 weeks-to-go til big dance secrets,

I can't take credit for colors of the new spike range, or most other shoes for that matter. My position is running sales, but I do m best to "give the people what they want"...
I can probably take some credit for keeping the Supernova and Boston Classic's around, but marketing has to make the call.
My advice during your taper is to listen to your body. I know exactly how you feel, and can remember feeling like "kitty litter" the day before my marathon PB. I went out for a jog, and made it about 10 minutes before giving up....
You are better off backing off, and allowing the body to rest, especially with the above normal resting pulse....perhaps a few strides to keep the legs sharp.
I am planning a late spring marathon, perhaps Hamburg in late April. I hurt my lower back the week prior to club nats, and was forced to heel in Demember.
Good luck with the Taper, and the coaching. My buddy Kevin Cruikshank said you scored some new Reebok Premier stuff during your sac trip....
