I coach h.s. and remember having success in college with short recovery in between intervals, i.e. long interval followed by short rest (20-30 sec.) followed by a kick...typically one set should add up to your race distance, so if youre training for 800, do a 600 hard, 30 sec rest, 200 kick.
Im wondering what time of the season to use this type of workout. Its highly anaerobic, so I know it would be later in the season, but if they are peaking around mid to late February, when should I give them this type of workout?
Also, Im curious to see when coaches start to peak their athletes for the big race of the season. I typically start about 2 weeks out, but others recommend 4 or even more. Just curious. Thanks.
