Nobody treats women better than white men. Nobody.
your point? so woman should just shut up and express their gratitude to white men who supposedly oppress them less than non whites? You should also probably consider the implications of a statement like that.
My point is that if she had said old black dudes she would have lost her sponsors immediately even though black men treat women worse than white men.
Not so difficult, eh?
The point is that she was replying to old white dudes on twitter who were very antagonistic towards her...
Also it's really funny when anonymous people here try to pull the card of "Oh her career is washed up, she is and has always been a terrible runner", etc. I wonder how many NCAA championships these anonymous people have won... I'm guessing Sheila Reid (and many others) have much more fodder for ad hominem attacks against their race times.
Sheila is right! The rest of the world went metric...didn't the US get the memo?
What's next...bring back the 440?

I like dirt 440 tracks because I'm a nostalgic old white man.
Just to really piss her off, we should bring back the Dolichos, in which naked men run 3800m:

Or even the race-in-armor, just to bring out the macroaggression angle:

Bring back the Dolichos!
Sheila rules. She is fast hot smart and witty.
She is right in this issue even if the poor white guy apologists took offence.
Sorry guys, as a fellow white guy I know how tough it is to be us. Definitely take umbrage at every chance.
There's no reason to run a mile race at a national championship at this point. It's insignificant.
The mile has a great history and I love the distance, but it belongs in meets that are not championships.
It's amusing to see neanderthal misogynists spouting off here. What a bunch of dumb losers. No surprise a lot of them are right wingers too, morons raised on Fox "news", totally lacking in critical thinking skills.

I love the mile and all but championship races need to stay with the 1500m. Hard starting a bunch of World class runners on a bend
Um Nate, ever hear of the 5000m?
Sheila Reid is correct. A 4 minute mile is nostalgia. That barrier was broken 61 years ago why are we still discussing it? Who runs the mile anymore? Even in high school we run the 1600.
The argument given at the DI portion at the convention by the coach at Southern Utah was that bringing back the mile would increase interest in track and give the sport much needed publicity. He mentioned how his athlete who won the Bowerman was more celebrated for breaking 4 minutes in the mile for his NCAA titles.
One event out of the 42 events contested at the NCAA Outdoor Championships isn't going to increase interest or publicity. In addition what is everyone going to say when the winner doesn't break 4 minutes, due to the usually slow times we always run in the mile and 1500?
Keep the 1500

She's right, this is a goofy move by out of touch old dudes who think it'll make a difference. If you want to "save" the sport (which doesn't need saving), make real changes, not gimmicks. Gimmicky crap like this just signals that you don't have any ideas.
Also, pretty funny that anyone thinks her tweet is "ghetto talk". Speaking of out of touch old dudes...
I agree

Rojo's take on this is beyond hilarious. It's sad that the brojos run a site this popular and continue to revel in their own ignorance about sport.
The title of this thread is really good. Well done.

No.
An argument stands on its merit.
Wrong.
Without context, your exercise in logic is just an exercise.
(Here's where he says "No" and restates his entire and tired argument again.)
Lots of old white dudes like to get a beating from a young white girl. Don't blame them. It's a part of their sexuality. Some were beaten by their moms, others by their girl/boyfriends. They just like it this way. As most of them have lost their physical ability, a verbal beating is even more satisfying.
Not sure why you all are against running a mile? Everyone states why they are against it, but no one really what reasons there are to keep it. This is for a few college meets. You can still run the 1500 everywhere else right?
Yes media will relate to it more. Sub 4, along with climbing Mount Everest were called the greatest sporting fetes ever. In a day of headlines dominated by football letting the mile back is smart.
Sorry you have to run 20 more seconds. Get over it.
Doesn't matter if they run the 1500, 1600, or the mile, men will always be faster than the women. That is what drives interest in the sport, who can run the fastest.
Women's track = JV.

How about we talk about the fact that we have to watch 15 replays of the 100m dash at every televised meet, but are lucky to get a screen shot of the results of the throwing events, let alone footage of an actual throw...
Not quite as bad as the throws, but we can't even get a steeplechase without a commercial or with it cutting in with only 3 laps to go...
Fight the battles that need fighting. If the Mile doesn't work they will go back to the 1500 since it is already an international standard.
Yeah let's cut all high school races and college races too, because it's only worth it to see the pros who run the fastest.
