I know the athletes in their current stable (Jenny Simpson, Brenda Martinez, Emma Coburn, etc.), but I was wondering about historical greats who were sponsored by New Balance.
Dick Beardsley and Pete Pfitzinger are the only great runners of the 70s/80s/90s that come to mind.
Any thoughts?

As I remember the 1996 marathon trials, Brantley and Coogan were dressed in black NB gear which made Bob Kempanien's break away, while vomitting, look extra heroic. The OP was asking who was "sponsored" by New Balance. I'm not an old-timer, but can it be considered sponsorship before the end of "shamateurism" which I've read was the 1983 cascade run-off? Before that were guys actually paid contractually to wear company gear or was it all payments under the table from the actual races?
I remember a race years ago where almost of all of the top men were nb athletes. Brantley, Crup, Taylor, Spence all were top finishers.

Whoops, just checked and that race I'm thinking of was the 1981 edition. So I guess my question is now can you say anyone was sponsored by shoe companies before 1981 when the rules changed and professional running became a legitimate profession?

You are woefully uninformed. The Cascade runoff that you speak of was 1981, not 1983. Regardless pf the specifics, athletes had binding contracts long before 1981. What the ARRA/Cascade run-off did was move things in the direction towards above board prize money, which, supposedly was to be drawn out gradually from an approved trust fund. Above board prize money was still a drop in the bucket compared to appearance fees and backroom prize money. It was never any big secret anyway.
