This is the sound of pro track dying.
Meucci is another name associated with our dear Renato. One of the better non-Africans.

ROME (AP) -- The Italian Olympic Committee requested two-year doping bans Wednesday for 26 track and field athletes - several of whom are slated to compete at next year's Rio de Janeiro Games.
The list includes Fabrizio Donato, the bronze medalist in triple jump at the 2012 London Olympics, and Andrew Howe, the silver medalist in long jump at the 2007 world championships; distance runner Daniele Meucci; and sprinter Simone Collio.
All 26 are accused of evading doping tests but maintain there was an administrative error. They will face trials at CONI's anti-doping court, with decisions expected sometime next year.
Five of the 26 had already qualified for Rio while about 10 have retired, including pole vaulter Giuseppe Gibilisco.

Here's Renato saying Meucci was completely clean. And he cites Andrea Lalli, who is also under investigation:
2) After 1985, nobody continued this practice (also in hidden way, like cyclists did). So, for example, Antibo never took any type of substance, and was able to improve dramatically.
The next generation of top Italian champion was completely clean :
Genny Di Napoli, Andrea Benvenuti, Beppe D'Urso, Elisabetta Perrone, Maria Guida, Ornella Ferrara, Maura Viceconte, Vincenzo Modica, Danilo Goffi, Giacomo Leone, Christian Leuprecht, Francesco Bennici and, of course, Stefano Baldini and now Daniele Meucci, Andrea Lalli and Valeria Straneo.

Does no one care that 26 athletes including medalists and one of the only white 2:11 guys are probably going to be suspended?

I think a lot of people care, but it's probably a combination of two things.
1) There has been a decent amount of this lately, so it lacks the "shock factor" that an announcement like this would have had if it preceded Russia/NOP/etc.
2) It is a Wednesday afternoon, most people are probably working rather than checking letsrun. -
I think CONI is trying to look tough on it's athletes so that they aren't lumped in with Russia at some future point.
No one tested positive, therefore nothing will ultimately come from this. -
Did Danielle Meucci (marathon great white hope) cheat his way to Beijing?
-
Howe was a great young talent. Not sure why he didn't develop from that terrific start but it seems surprising that he was doping. The others? Well, I'd have to see the details on the evasion.

Always suspected Meucci might be dirty. He definitely stole some money from some top Americans in road races over the years.
-
haha, and david monti always loved to trumpet the NYRR's association with meucci. kinda like how he always retweeted "inspirational" stuff about pistorias, then was one of the first to run to the media with stories about what an a$$ pisto was. Hey dave, are you goign to be "very disappointed" about this? Oh yea, since we've a mo trafeh thread, how about how openly you always welcomed trafeh to nyrr races, even when we ALL knew he was dirty as heck. both of these guys stole a boatload of cash from americans over the years, especially at nyrr races. nice.

Why do we even have WADA or testing, when Renato can just utilize his magical powers to tell us who is clean or dirty?
-
This is *potentially* a big deal.
Note that there were no doping positives, but only allegations of uncertain whereabouts.
This is no worse than Mo Farah's missed tests. In fact, the whole thing looks a lot like the Nike gray-area-ness...which has died a very quiet death.
I tend to agree with poster oh please on this one, that the Italians are trying to look tough, although I think it's misguided: Once suspicion is cast on an athlete, it never goes away, no matter how clean the athlete is.
I am a Meucci fan, and I loved his performance at Worlds earlier this year, so I hope he is clean...but I can only hope.
On a lighter note, Canova's name lends itself to rhyme easily. Say it ain't so, Renato, say it ain't so. -
Not Andrew Howe!
-
Apparently, Farah missed one test in 2010 and one in 2011. I find it hard to believe that Italy is proposing a two year ban on Meucci for something on that level. My guess is that he systematically, over the course of several years, missed tests. But maybe we'll find out more specifically.

It is three strikes always, and they know that, so effectively by missing tests they are going "mea culpa" without actually having the testing positive. Basically "I surrender" instead of getting shot down.
Farah was close to that situation until Nike/Alberto intervened, hence his fleeing to the protection of NOP.

exactly my thoughts. and also exactly why full transparency is needed, as clean athletes have zero to worry about. people want to make judgements? who cares, let em. dirty athletes are the ones who are going to get worried and object to information like this being open tot he public.

Renato discusses Meucci's training here (before ventolin^3 hijacks the thread for a dick measuring contest) http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=5974736

Huge deal here in Italy. 167 articles already published.
This confirms that Paula Radcliffe is dirty. -
Meucci is European Champion, 2014 Marathon (Zurich)
-
No one with a brain takes Renato seriously.

Can you provide some context for why so many names went down at once here and what is going on?
