They should be glad. Possible HIGH wind alert that whole day with 34 degrees. Good day to skip it.
Wrong, he's NOT running numbnuts!

False. 35 at the start and a high of 53. Light winds at most.
Not surprised by the USATF non sanction, although if Doug Kurtis is still race director, having Oly Qualifiers at 'his' race would certainly keep his ego inflated. Unsure why he was not aware of the sanctioning. Rachel McFarland is the Playmakers NB athlete who ran 115 last year in the half, and now apparently does not have a qualifier. As for GMs record - - will never be broken. His was run on a much different course which took the runners out to and around the Grosse Pointe areas of Detroit, which are some very high end lake front and yacht club property. Meyer only ran because of a promotional tie in with his then sponsor Brooks and some local connection. That course was very fast, however the GP Sunday am church traffic pitched a fit about traffic inconvenience and the course was changed to mostly downtown and Belle Isle. Current course view is pretty good, although the road surface on the Detroit side mirrors Michigan Avenue in Fallujah.
Sorry, Doug is a good guy, so the ego comment is a bit confusing. He won about 6 times, you can't fault him for that. Yes, you are correct about the course back then. The main difference now is the Ambassador Bridge versus back then it was just the tunnel, the biggest hill on the course was coming out of it. I ran it maybe 7 times and you are also correct about the church problem, but a lot of people from there liked it going thru their neighborhood. I believe Greg's record will be broken, when price money increases. There was a 2:14:59 and a 2:15:15 while the bridge was still in play. Never is something that I would bet against, but who knows? And, Doug is running the international 1/2 on Sunday.
Wind chills in the mid 20s predicted, should warm up with the sunrise coming out of the tunnel.
There are a couple Lansing/Ohio based Kenyans in the field this year in addition to a 3 hour flat 50k runner and the defending champ. Should make for a fun field up front! As long as the Kenyans don't confuse the starters of the half with the full marathon guys and leave us all in the dust from the gun..
See you all out there, good racing!
