Under Salazar, Luke P ran 2;28 in New York and gets dumped by Nike.
Self coached with a little help from Andy Powell and he runs 2:10.
Let's hope he's got the cajones to not let Nike come crawling back.

He, together with Kibet, are probably the favorites for the trials now...
-
Prefacing what you say with "it's official" doesn't make it official, btw.
-
He ran 2:15 under Powell prior to Chicago, so this is a 5 minute PR not an 18 minute PR.

Did anyone catch Luke's interview on NBC5? I missed the beginning as i was on Universal.
He apparently said something about a HS gf that had the announcers laughing.
Here is what I heard.
"I owe it to my wife and my newborn and my parents for always being there," siad Puskedra.
On quitting the sport briefly. "I kind of felt bad that my wife was financially picking up everything. It might be time to move on. (Maybe) this is a hobby and maybe it's a pipe dream to make the Olympics." -
Who signs him and how long before a deal is announced?
-
carey, the race director, has been after me for awhile to do the race...i was kind of like the high school girlfriend...finally i decided that it was right..."
something like that

It was somthing about him playing the hs gf, playing hard to get. I dont remember, who was trying to get him, I think he meant the Chicago Marathon. -

The asked him about not coming to run the Chicago Marathon prior when the director wanted him to. He said it was like a high school girl friend. When they wanted him it wasn't the right time for him to come but now that it is they didn't necessarily come looking for him.
It was a funny/light way to address the question. -
He said that he was the high school girlfriend playing hard to get with the Chicago Marathon a while ago when they wanted him to run it because he didn't want to run it then, but then later he did want to run it, and they finally got together.

Incredible run by Puskedra
THIS. AlSal will never be a marathon coach. He simply doesn't have it. I knew Puskedra was headed for greatness when I watched him win the Vancouver Sun Run this year. NICELY DONE, PUSKEDRA. -
AlSal's fanboys were quick to defend old man Salazar.
Great for Puskedra to prove Salazar has no clue how to train runners who are not mindless sheep that worship the toilet seat he sits on. -
OP:
Once Mo and Galen run a marathon together you won't be able to say that anymore. -
All coaches who are any good have successes and failures, and Salazar is no different in this regard. And comparatively, Salazar's runners have had greater success in the 5,000 to half-marathon range than the marathon--no question. Of course what's interesting is that his comparative lack of success in the latter is attributed to him, and his success in the former is attributed to doping. Ritz did run 2:07:47 while training with Salazar, the third fastest American and the second fastest of anyone born in America. It has always been interesting to me that he did so after a long track season and a shortened marathon buildup. Puskedra's marathon was off of a short buildup. Salazar's best marathons were never off of a marathon buildup, and in a certain way the same is true of Bill Rodgers.

What people mean by this is that even his doping regimens haven't produced shit in the marathon.

He achieved that thanks to his previous coach. After his first marathon prep block with the NOP and subsequently, he came nowhere close to 2:07. -
Take a deep breath is finally the voice of reason here. Yeah, this guy did step out of the C-list American pack and hopefully won't be mentioned in the same paragraph as clowns like Llano anymore. The gist of the thread is right on that point.
However, Ritz is still by far the favorite to win the Trials. If Hall is permanently messed up physically, Ritz is the only member of the US A-list. Who else makes the team? Yeah, our hero is certainly in that discussion.
BTW, who is this Kibet guy? Haven't heard him mentioned in the same analyses that through out all potential longshots in the 2:13-14 range even. In fact, never heard of him at all before. I may not be the biggest expert or follow as closely as some, but US citizen and still young? Sounds good, just don't know why Cabada, for example, gets a hell of a lot more press. This mystery man get any? -
I'm well impressed. I've heard about Luke since his colleague times. He was always "old school" runner.
It's not like I'm a NOP fanboy..but I respect what Salazar does. He is a student of the sport and seek to apply science methodology on running. As I'm a science guy and I love running, I kind of admire that.
But the insuccess that Luke had with him is that lesson of: "Run sometimes isn't just complicated as it seems..". Some people just don't adapt to that robot life, that Rupp has for example, and need to do it a little for just an "hobby".
I think he has still room to improve..based on his half marathon time, 2'07 or 2'08 isn't out of question. Just hope that he keeps that mindset. -

What on earth are you talking about? He had been with Salazar for over 3 years when he ran 2:07 in Chicago. -
