PS. We dominated that event in the Heps. Scoring in the steeple was about as hard as it would be for Leonardo Di Caprio to score at college sorority party.

DIII checking in with Brian Diemer
Eyestone: look how many years he had someone at NCAAs (not just regionals)--12?? Also he has had McAdams and Perry win it all.
Kelly Sullivan formerly of Auburn and Willamette and now Oregon State should also be mentioned.
What about one of Sullivan's proteges, Greg Metcalf at Washington? He should be in the conversation...

First, Farley went 8:19 In the NCAA finals to set the American Collegiate Record that held until when is was broken by Don Cabral in 2012. A record that held from 1984 to 2012. He also beat Julius Korir in a sprint finish who would go on to win the Olympic Gold that same year. He also coached and still coaches Brad Barton and Kurt Black who ran 8:23. Hislop also coached the long time American Record holder in the steeple Henry Marsh after college. Very rarely did Hislop get the kind of athletes out of High School that Wetmore or John McDonnell got/get regularly. Most of the guys he got were small school 4:30/10:00 guys.
8:20 is the measuring stick. Schumacher owns this with Jager, Huling, and recently Bayer. Hislop only had one guy in Farley. Gary zero. Gags one with Cabral. McDonnell one with Lincoln.
Croghan, Marsh, Diemer only other ones.
What is the threshold that separates a "hobbyjogger" from a "sub-elite" runner?
BREAKING: Leonard Korir not going to Paris! 11 Universality athletes get in ahead of him!
Do "running influencers" harm the competitive nature of the sport?
