Ed Cheserek is good only because he went to Oregon. He would not be good if he went to Oklahoma State or Wisconsin.
Recruiting plays a big part.
Again, name a person that has developed in the past year at UNT?
Thanks for playing.

Recruiting plays a part, coaching also plays a part. As someone who has run for a good coach and a bad coach I can tell you the coach plays a large roll in how well a program does. You clearly have lost touch with the sport if you don't believe that or have never run in college. A quick look at how the program has done since the current coach has arrived will tell you that she looks to be a great coach. 2nd in cross at CUSA in the first year in a new and better conference. Then followed that up with a 1st place the following year. The women place 3rd both years. They got votes in the National Poll so they are now a threat to make nationals but I guess the coach has very little to do with this. It is sad that you have to put down a coach that you probably don't even know. Lastly go look at all of the TFRRS results on the athletes, looks like a lot of athletes are developing at this program.
Thanks for playing

Wait...did Sam Burroughs coach the last two years or am I missing something? Recruiting and coaching are completely different my dude.
Thanks for playing.
Burroughs recruits well and has a great rapport with recruiting the international athletes. He recruited really decent international female athletes to the UNT roster who could have got scholarships at way better schools. Oh coincidently they never returned when he when Burroughs left/Slekis was hired.
Let's see Slekis recruit some decent athletes to UNT. The men's team will be nothing once Burroughs' recruits graduate and the females team is already an absolute disaster.
BTW UT will always be ahead of UNT.
This thread reeks of insecurities.
Anybody who keeps up with the collegiate side of things in XC knows this to be true.
The level of competition has increased DRAMATICALLY in Texas over the last few years. UNT, SFA, UTA, Houston (even though Magness is a bit full of himself, sorry). They are all getting better by the year. Good coaching, good support, and development at the high school level has much to do with this. But at the end of the day there are more choices than UT and A&M if you want to be a good collegiate runner in Texas. I've met Brad Herbster and Wendel McRaven on multiple occasions. Both coaches have the interests of the kids in mind, and after having seen both universities facilities I can say it would be hard to choose between those two. But great runners don't need amazing facilities to be great. They just need dedicated and smart coaches. Which Texas is chock full of.
Won't matter. Moot point when Baylor takes the #2 spot at the region meet in a few weeks. Just like last year.
Book it.
