Duquesne grad. From Pittsburgh. Just joined NE Distance in Rhode Island last month. Coached by Kurt Benninger (aka Mr. Molly Huddle).
SSSHHH !!!
He went to school in Pittsburgh but he's from Johnstown.
Has been running well for several years. Was unsponsored, without a club or team for a long time. Has done very well, moving up the ranks as if that's the way the sport was designed (when it clearly isn't). Other top finishes in Houston, Jacksonville, this year, and several other USATF races last year. Was one of few to run the 5000 and 10000 at USAs this year. Other good finishes at road races. has raced Penn Relays distance races the last yew seasons, which is where I first saw his name.
I'm a big fan of his journeyman style. I don't know his work/living situation before joining NE Distance, but he is a great example to follow if you aren't one of the graduate-right-into-sponsorship types. He's making it happen.
He's a great guy too. Always friendly and open with local runners in Pittsburgh.
Played hoops in high school.
I believe he'd been working in a running shop in Pittsburgh after graduation.
Got me out of summer school.
He did more than just play. He led his team (laurel highlands champions) in scoring. He was a 6'5" guard who could handle the ball and shoot lights out. If he hadn't chosen running (a good move) he could have played D3 if not D2 B-ball. That good!
Jim Spisak is a terrific runner, I raced him a lot throughout college. Came from a very solid Duquense program about 1-2 years ago. Was a 13:40 type 5K guy in college, started doing heavier mileage during college that has really paid off for him and he looks to be taking to the longer distances extremely well.
Always glad to see him doing well! Keep it up Jim!

Watched him solo a 29:02 at Bucknell a few years back. Impressive effort.
That's all I got.
