Where did Makhloufi run this workout?
Where did Makhloufi run this workout?
no he races 800/1500 but is really a 1500 runner, much better stamina than Coe
no 329 runner is incapable of 1:43+ 800...
and this workout was not really solo

Nick Willis is. Or at least has a coach incapable of speed development.
As usual, nobody looks at the REST in the workout.
800
10:00 rest
500
4:00 rest
400
2:00 rest
300
I would suggest 8:00 rest, 4:00 rest, 2:00 rest after the 800, 500 and 400 respectively.
If he had done this we would probably have got the WR.
The reflexive hostility to Ventolin seems to led some people into overlooking that everything he said in this thread is uncontroversial.. A 1:44 is a serious effort for anyone on Earth; most athletes hold back if they know they have more intervals coming; therefore Makhloufi has a lot of unseen potential in the 800. That's all the dude said.
I am amazed there isn't a single sound of a coach or teammate cheering. Who is this "friend" who was silently timing him?

Actually he calculated an exact conversion for him.
Anyway, you are right, this is a great workout for Makhloufi. Indicative of serious fitness. Any attempt to perform some sort of mathematical alchemy on it is probably misguided.

And he is wrong about that and his thoughts on being well rested.
His friend is Irish physio Evan Scully. He hired Scully after world's in 2013 to be his physio and S&C coach until Rio 2016.
Also as a side note Scully claimed on twitter, he was the person who first posted it on YouTube & twitter, that he paced the workout.
Apologies Scully isn't the 'friend" hes the man on the bike! My bad hahah!!

you'd probably need a good few days rest after a 1'44.5-solo let alone carry on repping !!!
i dread to think what that indicates for a fully rested 800 if he just spent a season running 800 off same training !!!
I dread to know what you think
What were the recoveries on this session?

Legit Workout wrote:If he's soloing 1:44 in practice does that show 800 WR potential?i get prelim estimate for him at
~ 1'42.0
2'11.5
he is some way off 800WR
A True 800/1500 runner like Coe?
anyone who solo's 1'44.5 knowing he had 3 more efforts to make after is damn well a "true" 800/1500 runner
i imagine if he'd just run that 800 flat-out with nothing kept in reserve for later runs he couda dipped into 1'43s with no trouble
with pacing to bell that wouda got him well into 1'42s
& i doubt he was fully rested for a solid 4 or 5 days before these efforts which is pre-requisite
only guys i know who have run 1'44.0 or better solo are :
Rudy - 1'40.9
Kip - 1'42.6i
Gray - 1'42.8
Kipkurgat - 1'43.9
i don't remember anyone other than these 3 breaking 1'44 solo
There is a difference between running solo and racing solo

Some of us have to pretend to work
makloufi should go out in 1:48-1:49 in a 1500 and hang on for dear life= WR
If he can solo 1:44, he could go out sub 1:50 with no trouble.
But how can this workout be possible? His Olympic run was a doped fluke, wasn't it? The guy doesn't have any real talent, he would be joe average if not for the doping. That is the message I took away from his Olympic race, according to this board. Maybe it shows what doping can do for you. Mind you I don't understand how Mo Farah can run 3.28 for 1500m as a 5k/10k/Marathon runner for that matter.
Secondly, it isn't possible to do this session solo. NO ONE can train with quality by themselves - where is his training group? That alone shows that he is doping (doesn't have a training group). Isn't that also a LR rule?

Is team and thus non-solo.

We all know the particular guy: he races his workouts and drastically underperforms at meets when contrasted with workout times. Hard to pin that on the Olympic 1500m champ, but is it possible that he is a workout warrior? 1.44 as part of a workout compared to his 800m pb is not significantly different.
I agree, he was likely running this very hard for a workout. Last 150m of each rep appears to be pretty close to full gas given his body language. Chasing a bike would be huge incentive to push hard and come up even or beat it like he does. Wouldn't have that visual cue and subconscious urge if truly solo.
Also, the end, laying around with hands over head and feet up...? Yes it was fast but it was only 4 reps totaling 2k and when he finished the 300 he was roughly 20 minutes removed of the 800 effort. Wouldn't a slight pause, some walking around then some cool down laps be more indicative of just finishing a workout effort? I can see sitting down maybe or laying down if getting a massage after cool down...

Yes, that must indicate that he's a super human being from a far distant galaxy!
