I know there have been other threads on this subject, but I'd love to get some feedback. I am a former collegiate runner with PRs of 8:26 (3k) and 14:46 (5k). After college I was burnt out and quit running entirely. I started lifting weights and gained 30 lbs. I just turned 29. I'm having a bit of a mid-life crisis (I'll probaly get eaten by a grizzly bear before I hit 60) and am seriously considering getting back into running. I recently realized I only have a few more years before my potential to ever beat my PRs disappears entirely. My question is this: if I dedicate myself fully to running (90 mile weeks/ healthy diet/ good sleep schedule) how long would it take me to get back to where I left off? By way of reference, I ran a half in July off of 8 weeks of training with a 6 miles as my longest run in 1:26. I have been eating Pizza Hut and drinking beer ever since.
