Yeah, in the short term over-training makes you feel like superman. That's why so many people fall into that trap. Scenario one is you feel great right up to the day you get injured. Scenario two is all your training turns bad and no matter what you do you cannot get out of the hole. Pay attention to the non-running indicators.
BTW, losing 5 lbs in 2 weeks is not safe, especially when training. Try for no more than 1 lb in 2 weeks.
I think these guys are right on!
I'm actually in the same boat as the OP. Right now, I know I increased my mileage a bit too quickly--trying to hit 60+ this week--so my sleep habits & appetite are all messed up. I'm waking up at 4AM though. And, I'm not really hungry. I feel great (a bit sore though). I was losing weight like mad, but now it's not happening (or even regaining a bit)...the last time I checked.
I'm backing off my mileage next week (to around 50 miles next week). Then, I'll start working back-up again.
I want to train safely. I don't want to get hurt. I want to see the "big picture" of my training & not the instant gratification of the right now. I actually really appreciate what Alab wrote & am taking it to heart!
