.....Run for fitness. Current research indicates 15 miles max for running a week for great health. Anymore and you open yourself up to injury and possible oxidization stress.
There is one certain way to absolutely minimize oxidative stress: eliminate carbohydrates from your diet. Burning glucose creates advanced glycation endproducts (acronym: AGE). Burning fat by contrast is clean and sustainable.
To eliminate inflammation, remove plant products from your diet. They are loaded with defense compounds, toxins and antinutrients. This will make injury and lingering fatigue but a faint memory if you train with any sense whatsoever.
Fortunately, there is a diet which accomplishes both of these goals: carnivore, i.e. consuming only meat, fish, eggs and for those who can tolerate, butter and/or raw dairy. Simple and proven over two million years of human evolution. One meal a day suffices.
Age 63 and 45 miles a week is easier and far less painful than 10 years ago, with improvement in performance (I was suffering all the complaints listed by those above). Not to mention my gains in resistance training would make a 30-year old think they've hit the "gains" jackpot. Also better sleep, work productivity, better skin, perfect digestion and excellent mental clarity, all with a very stabilized mood and attitude. I easily kicked lifelong alcohol and caffeine habits. Best of all, it's perfectly easy to implement, once you overcome your ingrained biases and misinformation about diet, health and fitness.
