He barely squeaked out third to make it to the finals.
If the finals go slow enough, Jager won't have the wheels to close over the last 100m... His 8 flat means nothing in a tactical affair

Steeple final won't be tactical, they'll start to kick it in from about 1200m.
He ran 3:32 for the 1500 this outdoor season, you idiot.

Which means what?
By the same logic as this thread Jager is also doped.
Idioto.
Jager looked very tense to start the race but kicked when he had to. I think he was letting the pressure/expectations get to him.
He's through the semi and he'll be relaxed for the final.

It means he has plenty of speed. You can start a fight if you want, but if you're an aerobically trained athlete with 3:32 1500 speed, you can run with anyone in the field. He outkicked 3 guys down the stretch, right?
Realize he was trying to use as little effort as possible to squeek through he doesn't care about getting 1st or 2nd....
Jager will medal
EVAN JAGER WILL NOT MEDAL.
You can take that to the bank closest to where you live..

EVAN JAGER WILL TAKE GOLD
I think this semi is the best thing that could have happened (given that he overcame such a tactical miscue). Hopefully this removed any possible illusions that he could allow a race to dawdle
(Much respect to the Kenyans but GO JAGER GO!!)

I agree, medaling is going to be tough; all of the top Kenyans are there. Basically, Jager is up against 4 of the fastest steeplers in history and they all look like they are in good shape. As excited as we are about Jager sub-8 capabilities, all but one of these guys have already done that. The mostly likely place is 3rd, but he could just as easily finish 1st or 5th. Btw, I would not read too much into Jager's semi race. Looking back, most of the top steeples have not looked great in the first round in global championships. The steeple is like the 5K rounds with one day less rest. It stands to reason that Jerry drilled into Jager to qualify with as little effort as possible and Jager perhaps took that too much to heart. To the people saying Jager will benefit from a fast race, perhaps that's true, but it's not like those guys can't run fast as well. Personally, although it is unlikely, I would like to see an 8:10 pace for at least half of the race, to perhaps shake out one Kenyans who might not be on top of his game and then push it down close to 8 flat over the last 2 laps. None of the Kenyans have great mile credentials, but can change pace quickly and kick hard off of slow pace. Jager does not want this to be a foot race to finish line.
Jager is not on his PEDs like Rupp, Armstrong, Radcliffe he will be a normal version of himself. I think he will have hard time going 8:20 off the EPO, AICAR, and test.
There are only two guys who are in sub-8 shape right now. Julius Berech and Evan Jager. Kemboi and Kipruto are not in that shape and they've had sub-par season thus far. All they showed us in the qualifying rounds is that they can kick well off a slow pace. And they did it by playing mind games (Kemboi going out to lane 5 and Kipruto going back and forth in the pack for no apparent reason).
If Jager sticks to running HIS type of race Berech is the only guy who is capable of matching him. I hope he sticks to his strength and make it a hard pace.
I remember when Rupp took silver at the olympics, everybody found a thread of someone saying, "NO WAY Rupp Medals," and harassed the heck outa that guy! You sir, Mr. Sorry to Say, could likely be that guy...
Sorry to say are you simply ignorant! Which other Steepler in the World can run 3:32 as a tune up race weeks before Nationals and split 1:52 in route?
Watch the race again, Evan did not squeak it out, he let off the gas the last 20 meters, he could have easily won by 10 meters. The US has 3 of the top 12 in the World in this event and he handily best those other guys, so how is he not in medal contention again, idiot?
You should refrain from making such posts. The first round is always tough, the final will be under 8:07 at night, not 85 degrees midday.
Jager is not running for a medal, he is competing for the Gold Medal. This statement is stupid and ignorant as to travel, conditions, and how Championships work. A prelim is 90% effort at best, not 100%!
Sorry to Say, sadly you were correct in your prediction... almost entirely correct!

Lol. Hadn't heard of Kemboi.

Nailed it. LOL at those that thought Jager could take it to the Kenyans in a championship steeplechase. Kenyans have always, and will always rule the event.
