Earlier today in Australia, Josh Harris supposedly ran a 4:56.2 beer mile which if ratified would have broken James Nielsen's existing world record of 4:57.0 and tied a possible pending world record of 4:56.2.
Now the organizers of the Beer Mile World Classic have reported that Lewis Kent in Toronto has texted them saying he broke Harris's record running 4:55.78 in Canada.

Both guys will square off vs James Nielsen at the Beer Mile World Classic in 2 weeks time so we won't have to wait long to see who is the best.

3:57? How much weed did you smoke today? -
And how does "3:56.25" "tie the existing record of 3:57.2"????
I'm 3 beers in tonight and I reckon I am far more sober than "Letsrun.com" -

Numbers have been fixed and LRC beer cut-off on Friday night. -
The Greatest Day in the beer mile will always be Neilsen going under 5:00 the first time, just like Bannister. No matter how many guys go under 5, he was the first. Maybe some legit pro will someday go 4:29, and that will be held up alongside, but never ahead of The Man And The Beer Mile!
Having said that, 4:55 is worth 4:48 on the Monaco track. A Monaco DL Beer Mile would be epic.
Not to dampen things too much, but sources have it that PIDs (performance inhibiting drugs) were used in attaining this record.
Seriously, can we get a breathalyzer 5 minutes after the performance? If they blow above 0.09%, a $500 bonus! -

If race-walking added a beer factor would that make it cool? If not, doesn't that just throw beer-miling into the same category as race-walking, going fast as possible with speed-inhibiting regulations? Sub 5, ooooooooh...aaaaaaah.....

Harris closed in about 62, Kent in 65. Sets up an interesting matchup in two weeks.

If we're going by "speed-inhibiting regulations", I would put the beer mile's regulations closer to that of the steeplechase and hurdles instead of that of race walking. there is no forced (by-rule) form limitation that is stopping you, just forced fluid intake, an external object. Race-walking's speed-inhibiting regulation is entirely internal.

There's a full inch of beer left in the one on the right:

I'm not one to make a point of details, but that's a lot. Doesn't count for me, sorry. -
Based on how easily Harris was running, I am positive that he's going to get under 4:50 (maybe close to 4:45) in San Fran.
Big questions:
1. Will FloTrack cover this World Beer Mile Classic?
2. Will there be PED drug testing? There's too much at stake to assume that everybody will be clean.
3. Who's inspecting the beer before the event? Does it have to been in a secure location, guarded by a neutral party? It seems like there's deflate-gate tampering potential here.
As the voice of the sport, it seems that the Brosjo should have on the ground live coverage of the event with pre and post interviews, etc.

I thought you had to use beer cans also.

Can someone tell me why they are reporting to the hundredth of a second? I don't see any timing system in place on Kent's track that would provide that level of precision. Hand times have to be in tenths.

No you dipshit - it's beer! How do you not understand that?
