I am 15 year old incoming sophomore female who runs xc. Last season (freshman year) was my first year on varsity. My team is pretty serious so I'm pretty sure I was the only one from the top 10 who didn't put work in over the summer. I felt kind of guilty and almost like I didn't deserve to be varsity because of this. So, this summer I decided that I would do the summer mileage. It's a long story but we didn't get any kind of schedule from our coach on what to do over the summer, it was left for us to use last years or figure it out by ourselves. So I started off at 15-20 mile weeks and now with like 10 days left before practices start I am at 32-35 mile weeks. By the time practices start I will have run like 200 miles this summer. So, what I am wondering is that is 200 miles a good base number or too little? Again this is my first summer I have spent time training. Most of my teammates say its a solid number to hit but, they all have doing more mpw than me. Honestly I just want someone to be real with me. Will 200 miles be enough to be a good base for the season?
