Consequently, Cecil's death represents mankinds' repressed image of Noah's flood. We humans were once with the most feared animals when the great deluge purged the earth of evil. So symbolically, the killing of an endangered icon i.e. Cecil is disturbing. There were times in ancient times when the Earth was disturbed by catastrophes and in the caves - dangerous animals (lions, tigers, etc) had to co-habit caves with our human ancestors.
So I'm just saying folks, symbolically something is happening.
How is what the hunter did to Cecil any different than the kid that goes around the neighborhood, stealing peoples' cats and dogs, who are trusting of humans, and then torturing them to death. We all agree that that kid is a future serial killer in the making. Only a complete sociopath would cause intentional pain and suffering to an animal, and derive enjoyment from it.
As for the people who think it odd that others are making a bigger deal about the death of a lion than they are about any of the millions of humans who die in a given year, it's because the lion is a symbol of a wilderness that is being lost. In the movie "Dances With Wolves" the wolf being gunned down is far more powerful than any of the human deaths that occur in the movie. I'm sorry that you can't see that.

Fetuses aren't allowed to be terminated beyond a certain point anyhow, so your argument is a straw man. Anyhow, I said that abortion is a gray area ethically to me. From a utilitarian perspective, I'm in favor of it but, from a more idealistic point of view, I can see how any destruction of life could be seen as wrong.

It is just something that has been widely accepted in privileged cultures for decades, and now has become unsurprisingly unpopular due to the moral aspects of it.
Social media has disintegrated the borders of social norms to allow everyone to have an opinion on every cultural belief, without understanding the context. The context is that this practice has been around for years, meaning that it is more related to socio-economic status rather than singular personality characteristics of this one person.
This man is doing no different than say, Theordore Roosevelt.
The only reason people are up-in-arms about it is because social media has given an easy outlet to side with this violent act. Meaning its a lot easier to be angry online than go to Africa and become fight against poachers. In the old days, if you highly disagreed with poaching you can either A) tell your 10 friends and family B) buy tickets to Kenya to protest C) send $50 to a fund against poaching D) do what 99% of you posters do, nothing. The internet have given visibility to other people's social norms easier and we can pass judgement now.
Is it morally wrong to hunt big game animal? Many say yes, but some don't believe so. I bet after this incident, change will happen for the "Great White Hunter" as they are finally learning that their morals are out of line.
As I finish, I'd like to say that I am against big game hunting, but I do not let emotional-charged thinking not help me understand.

For another, often these babies are being aborted because the abortionist has stated they are handicapped. A living baby could also be evidence the abortionist made a wrong diagnosis.
Barack Obama, a self-professed champion of the little guy and opponent of bullies, in this case argued in favor of trusting the abortionist. And the reasons are obvious. The abortion lobby in 2008 promised to spend $30 MILLION for their candidates as well as get out the vote.
