Unmotivated after work these days. Falling out of shape.

Here's something to try:

Can you run in the morning before work?

I get up at 4:45 and have time to run 6-8 miles and still be early for 7:30 work.

Do that- just get up and run but run for the sake of running. Not to train, just to enjoy the early morning- sunrise, cooler temps, solitude.

I live in town but still see deer occasionally. Some people are up and out. Now, I even do my workouts that early.

I like the idea.

I think this would help tons, but how do I motivate myself to get up that early?

I probably wouldn't have to get up until 6am either though. I live very close to work and have flexibility. I know I sound like a loser, but I just feel so lazy these days. What do you do to get up that early?

It's not easy. There are a few ways to get re-motivated but then those don't always work.

You can start training for a different race/distance. If you're doing 5ks look at doing a solid marathon, or vise versa; drop down from marathon training and tackle the short fast stuff.

Find a race that you always wanted to do and plan on traveling to it and really trying to nail it.

Start running with a group, even if it's just once a week. You won't want to fall behind, so you'll get in your miles the rest of the time.

And then finally, sometimes you need to step away from running for awhile. Take 6 mo. and just hike, go to the gym, ride a bike, rock climb whatever...

One trick I found to be somewhat successful was to bring my running clothes to work, so there's no time for you to convince yourself not to run on the ride/drive/commute home.

I'm not sure how accommodating your individual workplace would be for this, but you should, if nothing else, be able to change in a bathroom, stash everything in your car, go for a run and then change once you get home.

The hardest part is getting out the door. Force yourself for one week and you will be good to go.

I recently noticed about 10 guys that seemed to be late 20's at a party standing in a group shooting the shit 6 of them had guts that will be hard to lose. Don't be that guy.

Seems like what needs to happen is to stop tying whether or not you run to whether or not you feel like running.

I agree with the person who said once I can do it for a week, I'll be set. In the past, once I started back the first couple weeks, I always seemed more excited and motivated. I just can't believe how lazy I feel this year.
