He just got 4th in the 1500 in 3:37.

You're blowing smoke buddy. 3:37 for a 20 year old is awesome!
3:37 at 20 yrs old is great! wrote:

You are missing the point, OP said he was overrated, didn't say anything about 337 being a bad performance or anything. Just that he feels Ches is overrated, I actually agree I don't think he will do to well outside of college.
His demeanor is weak, I don't see him being competitive on the world stage, he'll be a dud.
I actually think it just shows the NCAA is weak right now, and don't mentions how times have gotten faster in the last 10 years because they have also gotten faster for US pros too.
Really no super solid runners in NCAA right now, look at Jenkins performance at USA's. Predicted 3rd got I dunno out the back? Overrated! Rupp made the team while still at Oregon.
I totally get it that anyone can be great yet still be overrated. For all the hype around Cheserek one could have expected more.
Still, he is a sophomore in college who has been focused on the 5/10K distance. To lay down a 3:37 goes to show how talented he is.
There wasn't anyone in that race that could touch him at 5 or 10k and he's still in college. Can't expect him to compete with intl level guys at 1500 especially right after the season.
Are we going to ignore the fact that he is a 5k/10k guy, so a very low 3:37 is a pretty damn good result. He just ran faster than this year's 5k champion ever has in a 1500 (Ryan Hill's PR is a 3:37.10 in case you didn't know) and this wasn't even a PR for him, so however disappointed you may be with this result, I expect you to carry that same disappointment in the multitude of other runners you probably respect that the "overrated" Cheserek would probably beat in a 1500 with just the time he ran today (Derrick, True, Bumbalough). Furthermore, this probably was just a tune-up race for whatever distances he will be attempting to race in Europe at some point this summer. We're way too critical of this guy, or at the least the criticisms of this guy aren't distributed evenly for every other runner in discussion across this board as is the usual bigotry of LetsRun posters. Note that I'm not a fan, it's just irritating to see many people in my opinion demonstrate minimal understanding of running through threads like this, and display a much higher aptitude in the department of making stupid criticisms. He doesn't deserve to be called king, but he also doesn't deserve unfair critique.

He is 5/10k guy and he would beat that entire field at anything above 1500 meters. When was the last time he lost to another NCAA guy who was not on his team ????
Congrats to Dan Winn, unknown local guy who is just getting faster every year.
He's not just a 5k/10k guy. I think you are forgetting the fact that he was the NCAA Mile Champion who covered Soratos 53 second mid lap and ran the collegiate 1000 record in the process. There is a reason we hype him up so much and give him high expectations.
Rupp ran a 3:50 in the mile, does that remove him from the 5k/10k guy category just as Cheserek's performances below 5k remove him from the 5k/10k runner category?
He's 27 years old and over the hill.
Unbelievable. Only on this board would this drivel be posted. I'm no UO apologist, but man he is tough and has already racked up plenty of NCAA titles. What more does he need to do?
Wondering with the OP's PR's are.
Simply amazing, only on this message board. Of course I've heard all the Kenyans, Ethiopians, Mills, Lindgren, Pre, Viren, John Walker, Coe, etc., suck on this board.
No one is good apparently ... except for the Division III OP, I guess.

I was expecting 3:36 at best; he not miler or perhaps ncaa level yes, but not world class. That was evident as far back as high school.

Except Makhloufi!

Overrated and over aged. The day we start to bone scan and correctly age-date these ridiculous Kenyans in our schools, we will be over the next hurdle to bringing some fairness to our sport---that we support with our tax dollars. When a Kenyan arrives at a prospective school and claims he or she is 19, you can add at least 6 or 7 years to that. You can also bet that his 'last name' is really his middle name---and you can't be sure who you are dealing with.
Is he really running a summer track season or was this just a one time thing on the back side of his NCAA peak?
My guess is he hasn't run much over the last three weeks and 3:37 is what he is like at the start of XC training...
seriously. this "king" crap was old the day it began. it's as bad as a grown man with a man bun that goes by the kid's name "robby". really, dude?
1500 isn't his event. Throw him in a 5k or 10k and then you'll realize why he has so much hype. The dude is legit & only 20 years old. Wouldn't be surprised if he's in the Olympic Final for the 5 or 10k
OP was saved by roommate who was arguing against global climate change.. otherwise this would undoubtedly be the stupidest thing i've heard all week
are you really making fun of a guys name? or even how he abbreviates it?
do you make fun of Jenny Simpson for her name and hairstyle too?
