I was there. I was on the backstretch at that time and could only see the homestretch on the video board. We never saw the winner coming--he only came into frame on the video board at the very last step. That's one of the better races I've seen in 30+ years at the state meet; I remember Chris Nelloms splitting 44.8 one year and still coming up one step short of the win.
Anybody see Annie Heffernan from Cincinnati St. Ursula? She won the distance double in 4:48.39/10:38.04 which was good, but the way she did it was just nuts. She ran with the pack for 6 laps in the 3200, then put 120 meters on the field over the last two laps.
