What's your claim to running fame?
I'll give you mine, but first let me say that I was and am a mediocre runner at best, so I'm not trying to toot my own horn. I'm just interested to know if you have any stories like the one I relate below. I have mediocre best times of 14:58 for 5,000 and 32:24 for 10,000, and 2:58 for the marathon.
My claim to fame is this:
In spring of 1985 while a senior at Perrysburg High School in Perrysburg, OH I lined up for a 3200 at the Oak Harbor Invitational alongside Kinney Cross Country champ and ocassional Letsrun poster Scott Fry. He had won the 1600 in 4:10 and the 800 in his PR of 1:57. The previous year he beat me at this invitational by running a 9:11 in the 3200. Anyway, he false started and was disqualified. I went on to win that race to a chorus of boos and chants of "you suck, you suck, you suck." Anytime someone brings up his name in conversation, that is my Scott Fry story.
Got anything like that?
