I'm reading through his book, 14 Minutes, and I'm actually enjoying it. I know there are mixed opinions here but I can identify with the man. I suffer from depression (self-diagnosed) but have always been reluctant to take meds.
I was surprised to read what appeared to be a contradiction though. When he first started taking Prozac at the suggestion of a psychiatrist friend, he said that his running immediately improved. He was suddenly able to run mile repeats at 4:45 pace instead of the usual 5:00 pace. But then he writes how SSRIs are known to decrease athletic performance and that's why they're not on the list of banned substances for runners.
What is the verdict on this?
