World class Albanian runner! Where did she spring up from?

Given that part of the world, next to Greece, use of PEDs wouldn't surprise me.

I researched for a while and I found out that she apparently comes from Albania.

Gega has been on the pro scene for a while. She finished 3rd in the 1500 at Euros a while ago. Really ought to try her hand at the 5 or 10 as the Albanian records in these events are really weak. She trains in Tirana (sp) and attended university there.

funny you brought this up I had tavë kosi for dinner last night which made me try to think of well known Albanian T&Fers- I came up empty.

Albania had another semi-decent female 1500m runner back in the 1980s, Pavlina Evro. She scored an upset win in Nice, one of the IAAF meets on the circuit back in the day.

...and this is pretty much Albania's international athletics history. Gega is their best -- which isn't saying much locally, but she does have reasonably good marks and progressions, and has been in recent championships:

In 2012, she was in the WIC and EC -- in the 1500 -- did not advance. 2013 WC, she made the sf in the 1500. Also was 4th in the 800 & 2nd in the 1500 at the Mediterranean Games that year. 2014, she made the final at WIC, and was 6th. Also in the EC 1500 last year, but did not advance.
