Watch out for Donavan Brazier - Hser runs 1:48.07 - Is Grant Fisher the best prep even in Michigan?

He's that close to the record, and you want him to go off and run the mile. That's what happens with everyone who gets close to the US prep 800 record, and is why it's so weak.

He'll only be running the 4x8 and 800 at state on 5/30. Part of me was kinda hoping to see him race Fisher in the 1600...

Looks like he will be doing the 4*400 as well. He is a team guy. It would be good to see a showdown in the 1600, but doing 4 events at state would be a lot. Especially in MI where the state meets are during the day in the summer after having cooler spring temps. I ran there many years ago and hated that. I wish they would try and make it more amenable for faster times.

Great run - puts him #2 right now amongst North American HSers - some random Canadian kid ran 1.47.91 last night in some province of Ontario backwater (London). But he was pushed to do it against College guys.

Brazier shouldn't be concerned about what Fisher does over 1600/mile. He should focus on staying ahead of Myles Marshall (who is pacing at New York, and has yet to put down a good 800m this year). He could run faster against good competition - where are all the 1.46 HS guys who should be rolling out of all these great HS programs. It's not just about doing the mileage. If some random Canadian kid can run 1.47, should be dozens of US HS guys doing the same or faster.

Unless, of course, the random Canadian kid is just a random outlier.

The Random Canadian Kid definitely push the University guys, not the other way around.

1:48.39 for Brazier tonight, winning his area all-star invitational by 9.17 seconds. No word on how he paced it. His 1:48.07 reported had a high-55 first lap, and 52-something for the second.

He still has his state finals coming up, and probably a defense of his national title at New Balance. Racing the 800 at USA Juniors would make a lot of sense as well.

What would make the season perfect? An invite to the Dream Mile. The kid ran a 4:07.15 for 1600m before he hit peak form and he made it look easy. No one has any idea what he can run right now against real competition, but more than a few coaches on the west side of the state believe that he--and only he--can beat Fisher.

Wait wait wait, I've been laying off this whole "Fisher isn't the biggest talent in MI" GARBAGE, but did this kid really run 1:48.0x with a 55 high FIRST lap? Is there support for this? That's worth....really fast.

Tough to tell on the video as it's from the 3rd place kids mom apparently. But that kid goes through in about 56/7 so Brazier probably 54/5.

He's a stud. Still, I've seen him race Fisher and they are still on different levels in the 1600/Mile.

Yes, you saw them race. In January.

If races in January told us everything we need to know, there would be no surprises at all in the big races of June.

Not saying Brazier can beat Fisher. I'm saying that watching him try could make one of the most exciting high school mile races of all time. If the Dream Mile folks don't invite him, they are missing a huge opportunity.

My point I guess is an example of the consistency and dominance we've come to expect from Fisher. I've never seen him strained or even pushed in a track race and not in XC since the first Footlocker, so wouldn't expect it to happen now but that's why they run the races.

Fisher has been in a few college/pro races

Nice 800, but the kid has NO chance of being the best in the mile.

I'm going to word this carefully as 1) ANY 1:48.0 by a high schooler is a phenomenal run and 2) I don't want to come off sounding like ventoolin...

That was not 55 high/52 low.

Michigan's about more than Grant Fisher. A couple weeks ago,defending New Balance 800 champ Brazier ran a 4:07.15 / 1:51.58 double.

Tonight at our regional meet, in perfect conditions, he won the 800m by 10.39 seconds in 1:48.07. Now he's the ninth fastest prep in U.S. history.
