This has to be some of the most arrogant and narcissistic behavior in our sport. Pro runners do it. Collegiate runners do it and, seeing that collegiate and pro runners do it, my retard high school runners now do it.
What could you possibly be trying to tell your audience? That you are number #1? We knew that when we saw you break the tape/cross the line. We did not think you were #2 or #3 or #4. 99% of the time it's pretty obvious.
The most mind-boggling behavior is posing for photo before a race holding up a finger indicating you are #1. Even if you knew, somehow, you were guaranteed to be #1, don't you think this smacks a wee bit of over-confidence and vanity?
