The ultimate problem would be price inflation. It's the same issue as raising minimum wage: $15 an hour will just deflate to $7.95.
I wish we could do this. Even as a republican who makes a solid income, owns a large home and sends kids to private school, I would be very willing to support society in a big way if I knew it would actually work. If it would, I see no problem with someone basically having their human needs met without working, but I do believe work is required for anything more.
So many problems, though. History tells us how it would unfold.

Taxing the rich isnt about bringing in more income, its about making it less appealing to keep making more and more money which history has shown to hurt the lower classes who most are very willing to work.
History has never shown anything other than that the selfish profit seeking of businessmen is the single thing that raises everyone else out of poverty. Marxism is a rationalization for envy, which is the single lowest and most pathetic thing humans are capable of.

Top 50% pay 97% of income taxes. Doubling income taxes would bring the total across all governments to the ~ 8 trillion.
So in terms of raw money that's the answer. Given that this ignores the fact that ~27% of US population is under 20 the raw revenue is mathematically there
So if we double taxes on the evil rich b*st*rds, thus taking 80% - 100% of their income we can mathematically get this to work? How long do you think the evil rich b*st*rds will continue to work if you take everything they earn?
