In fourth grade, my Dad took me and a friend to see the original Kiss. He was probably nuts to do that, but it was one of the best experiences of my life.
Man, what a show!
I can imagine that would have been a huge deal so young. Based on where we lived, I wouldn't have had that opportunity. I'm guessing he played the music a lot around the house or you knew it from the radio? Or, was your old man like, "You'll think this is really cool"?
Aaron Lewis of Staind at my daughter's suggestion.

My Dad was pretty cool. He was a DJ at his father's radio station when he was in high school. So he was pretty into music. But I was the KISS fan.
All the kids in my neighborhood were into KISS. We even did our own concert with the back patio as our stage. We piped in the music and faked playing our instruments. We had makeup, costumes, drums, guitars, fireworks, and the whole schtick. Our "Ace Frehley" attached a smoke bomb to his guitar. I was Gene Simmonds and spit up fake blood. Our Paul Stanley had a homemade guitar just so he could smash it. Good times.
In the reverse way, I dragged my mother to a Chuck Prophet and the Mission Express show when they were coming through my hometown. She liked it. But I don't think she will be buying the vinyls anytime soon.

Took my son to a ICP show last year and we talked into the wee hours of the night about how magnets and rainbows were fvckin' miracles that could never be explained.
Beautiful bonding. Glad I could pass along something of value to my son.
hahahahhaha YES. Also- the Manson post is funny as hell as well.
My dad chaperoned my friend and I to see Metallica when I was in middle school. He also chaperoned us to a Devil Driver concert.. he wasn't too big a fan of that. Feel bad for my friends parents that took us to Lamb of God/Slipknot back in middle school as well.
Geez, what a hoot!
Is this what LetsRun has become?Parents sharing stories about their brats?

Let's look at it from the point of, "I/We took Billy/Susie with us to see Metallica", not so much from the point of "I/We went with Billy/Susie to see Katy Perry" (as in, you more or less chaperoned, unless you also really wanted to see Katy Perry). Not intending to judge tastes in music. I'm most interested what the kids' impressions were.

Relax. It's just a brief interlude from bitchin', hatin' & trollin'. Everything will be OK.
