What is the honest point? Breaking a "world record" indoors doesn't even mean you ran the fastest time ever at that distance....so who honestly cares?

Two different sports on different types of tracks make it logical to have an indoor world record for indoor track & field and an outdoor world record for outdoor track & field. If indoor tracks were 400 meters then it really wouldn't make as much sense.
and to have these subcategories :
11 lap, 200m flat, 200m banked, oversize track and altitude assisted.
There are physical limitations running indoors that are not present outdoors. Therefore they are different. Collegiate, Junior, and High School records are all kept as well.

Supposedly.
On a related note, I feel the same way about venue records. Why so many? Why for each event is there a facility, meet, and collegiate record?

What do you care?

Because I like records, but don't like watered down stats. Why do you care whether I care or not?

If you like records you should be all for all of this sh!t.
I'll explain it:
meet record - fastest a person has ever run, say 5000 meters, at the Olympic Trials, or at the Tyson Invitational.
venue record - fastest a person has ever run, say 5000 meters, at Hayward Field regardless of if it was the Olympic Trials or just a duet meet vs the Oregon State Beavers.
Collegiate record - fastest a person has ever run, say 5000 meters while competing in college.
Can't you understand how it would be interesting to learn that someone ran the fastest 5000 ever for a collegiate runner? Or the faster 5000 meters ever run at Hayward field? Or the fastest winning time in the history of the Olympic Trials?
You really can't understand how come people would be interested in each of those situations?
Oh, and why do you care why I care whether you care or not?

Did you click on the wrong post to reply to? Nowhere did I ask for a definition of each term nor did I say that I didn't know what they mean. Nor did I say that I could or couldn't understand why people would be interested in that.
Why are you avoiding the question? I told you why I cared. You are just repeating the question.
The point is to have something to strive for and talk about during that season.
It's added value and interest.
If you can understand why people would be interested in each of those situations then you understand why all the different records are kept and you must be a fool to complain that they exist.
If you don't understand why people would be interested in each of those situations then you are likely a narcissist who believes everyone should think exactly the way he does but clearly that is the ONE RIGHT WAY.
So, my only question now is:
Are you a fool, or a narcissist?
Maybe someday you can set an age group course record at your local turkey trot, if they change to a new course that year and no one your age that is any good shows up. Until then, go fvck yourself.
