A clean athlete would be offended by the presence of a doper. The dopers are frauds, liars, and thieves. They take medals, money, and opportunities away from clean athletes. So, no, a clean athlete does not buddy up with a doper. There is a fundamental difference separating them.
Secondarily, a professional athlete understands that being associated in any way with a doper will make him or her subject to suspicion.
So, what's the answer? The answer is that there is a doping culture that accepts itself as the norm and within that culture one can just be oneself, without the need to incessantly lie and or pretend you're something that you are not. You can dope together, train together, and hang together. You are accepted in that group.
