Since we have 5 posts about the Premier League in my thread about the Armory Track Invitational after I mentioned I'm a Crystal Palace fan, I figured we'd better start a Premier League thread or no one will be talking about track in the other thread. This week's big match is of course Palace vs Everton. Can the Eagles make it 5 in a row under new coach Alan Pardew? Will Dwight Gayle the scoring machine and the reason I'm a Palace fan, get to play? The answer are linked.Looks like two teams named Manchester City and Chelse are also playing.I'll also continue to educate the LRCers new to the game of soccer:
Jonathan Gault wrote:Great idea Weldon, though I should point out for any LRC visitors thinking of adopting an English soccer team, Crystal Palace should be the last team on your list. For some reason, when it came time to choose, my boss picked the team that happens to be the biggest rival of the one I support -- Brighton & Hove Albion.
Ever since I've been paying attention, Palace and Brighton have never even played a game. I guess the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Rail Riders might consider themselves rivals of the Red Sox.

You got Pards, Wejo! He will save you from relegation.
I did the math. If we (year I refer to Palace like the Cowboys with a we, Aathough Jon has told me I can't switch teams if Dwight Gayle leaves) win out we'll have 71 points. We'll be close to the top 4.
Seriously what does a mid but not top of the table team shoot for in the EPL? I went back to 2005-2006 thru now and only 6 different teams have finished top 6.
Being near the top bottom is interesting because every week is a battle to not get stuck playing with the likes of Brighton.
City, Chelsea, Arsenal, United, Liverpool and Tottenham are the 6 in the top 4 and Tottenham only made it twice. So it's really 5 teams for the top 4 European spots every year. If the other teams fought for more revenue sharing is the concern the top teams would just form a permanent Champions League that played year round and they would just leave the EPL behind?
I have one more question. Let's say Dwight Gayle started scoring a goal every game. Palace fans take it for granted then that he would be sold to a bigger club. Why? I don't really understand how the transfers work, but if I was a mid level team that was secure (if DG was scoring every game Palace would be secure, I would want to keep my best players and try and move up the table). If you sell a player, the only way to go get another one is to go buy him right?
