Clint Eastwood does two type of movies now. 1) military veterans shown as humans with sensitivty, 2) U.S. Marine suicdal crazy people. I hope Eastwood gets an Oscar in Los Angeles at the Academy Awards for Best Picture.

Just saw the movie. It was solid, not great.
Being a sniper in Iraq must have been like shooting fish in a barrel though. Urban setting, lots of "amateur" fighters, easy kill situations
Anyway. It's a damn tragedy when number of kills are celebrated. I would have done the same to protect my brothers in the same situation, but still a f-ed up situation and value system.
This film will resonate with many Americans.
I thought Lone Survivor was a bit better, despite Mark Whalberg
I enjoyed the book. Usually when I like the book, I end up being disappointed by the movie. So I may pass.
Just saw it.
Shmaltzey cheezy drivel.
I guess in all fairness to my "review," I give a bit of a background. I didn't even know that this was a "true" story. When I watched the trailer, I thought it was nothing more than a made up, war movie. It wasn't until the final scene, when I saw clips of the actual memorial, that I realized this was a true story.
If you want to know what Chris Kyle meant to those who knew about him, just youtube his memorial. You'll see 200 miles of people who showed up to do nothing more than watch his Hearst drive by, and pay their respects.
Wow I've been reading about this guy and he ended up murdered at a gun range . He also lost $1.8 million to Jesse Ventura in a lawsuit. Odd events.
I just saw it (with a beautiful woman I'd like to marry). Went in thinking it would be fairly cheesy. Ended up thinking it's the best war movie I've ever seen. That's not saying a ton since I don't really seek out the genre, but really did think it was a quality film. No cheese at all. Cooper did a great job. Ending is pretty abrupt, but other than that I highly recommend.
Don't get too caught up in fact vs fiction. Nobody ever said it's an exact account. It's a Hollywood movie BASED on a book that was written by a man. Just go in and enjoy yourself.
Is that you John Wayne?

Best War Movie is Full Metal Jacket. Go rent it kids.
which politicians, actors, athetes or coaches in any sport served as a front line grunt in a u.s.a. ground infantry outfit? very few. only 10% of the military ever attack the terrorists with hand guns or rifles.
Saw the movie last night, and it is good, but nothing special. I guess it would have particular resonance if you were in the military, were close to someone in the military or are interested in shooting guns and killing foreigners. Cooper's acting was good -I think - but I don't know what the actual character was like, so it is hard to say.

These type of movies are pure CHEESEFESTS. They are no good except to go pound our chests and tell ourselves how wonderful and great we are. These cheesy movies make me want to throw up. If you want to go watch this trash, be my guest. Don't forget your tear wipers and your best friend so you can yap about what a wonderful "hero" this sniper was and how he killed so many bad guys and how he defended us good guys from the horrible, horrible boogie man. Pure propaganda BS and favorites of those that claim to love America but refuse to pay their taxes to take care of her. Get the fvck out of here....
I loved this review in the FT :
"after The Hurt Locker what is there to say about war’s corrupting power on warriors, except what can be said louder, longer, more crudely?"
"a shouty, weary spreadsheet about American geo-military good intentions and the place to which, we know, good intentions pave the road."
Nigel Andrews.

Do yourself a favor and go see "American Sniper". Truly a great movie about an American hero, Chris Kyle. Fair warning, not for the faint of heart.
Just another US military propaganda/recruitment video. Zzzzzzzzzz.
Sheep.
The movie was pretty good. I'm not sure why Cooper got nominated for Best Actor.... All he did was look through a scope and talk with a Texan accent.
Typical myopic "USA" propaganda.

Explain to me exactly what about it is propaganda?
They took some Hollywood leniency at times, but it's a movie that is to be expected. If you can't appreciate a good film about an American war hero without being a huge condescending douche then you have COMPLETELY lost touch with reality.

If didn't pick up on the pro-American spin on that film, than YOU have completely lost touch with realty.
Good film??
Help us understand your criteria. Give us your top 3 favorite films. That'll tell us all we need to know.
And if you want to learn about the war, or any history, go read a book. Or at least watch a documentary. History through cinema equals dumbing down of the masses.

Would you prefer a pro-terrorism spin? If so, move.
And before you start "educating" me on the war, don't.

It seems like you've moved past Dez Bryant's drop -- on to bigger and better things, I see!
