How does El Guerrouj train at a high level during Ramadan when he cannot eat or drink during daylight hours? Are there any Muslim athletes out there who can help shed light on this for me?

They trains their butts off at night!! They can eat and drink what they want at night so that's when they train! You should see some of the night workouts of these Muslims! INCREDIBLE WORKOUTS AT NIGHT when most normal people are asleep.
Maybe he sleeps during the day. Maybe he backs off his training for a while.Maybe he doesn't even observe Ramadan. Lets face it there are liberal and conservative interpretations of Islam just as there are liberal and conservative intrepretations of Christianity.
becuase he is a god!
does track at 11:30pm
How about, he eats at night, sleeps, and trains right when he gets up, doesn't seem like too big of a problem to me, it would just be tough to do more than 1 workout a day. I hope you guys are kidding about him training at night, he's not going to eat and train at the same time.

He could easily wake up when the sun sets, have a training session, eat a large meal, then have a light training session around 5AM, followed by another huge meal, then sleep all day.
forget about training. ramadan will at some point fall during the summer racing months. my guess is he doesn't observe it.
He does observe Ramadan
yes he does follow ramadan, very seriously. The fact that he follows it is part of what makes him such an amazing athlete that he can still win.
Whenever I'm feeling lazy and don't feel like going out for a second workout at night I remember what El G said in an interview:
“Once, during Ramadan, I trained at 11 o’clock at night when it was minus 6.”

I believe he does observe Ramadan as he is a devout muslim

Was amazed to learn from that article that Houcine Benzriginet, El G's pacemaker, never races. He must put all that effort in doing endless reps and never get the benefit of it.
Also, before Athens El G said he'd try and do the 10,000m at Beijing which would have been interesting.
They train just before ftor ( time to eat). During this period, they just train once a day.
It isn't as hard as ppl think. I've been running and traing for 6 years now and never really had a problem. I train during the day though people think it's not to healthy, but gotta settle. Just make sure you drink enough water the night before.
