26:17 and 12:37
No one has even come close to a spitting distance of those times.
What is it exactly about bekele that makes him so talented? I notice he has a slightly larger build then the average Kenyan or Ethiopian elite, but seriously what is it about him that produces such fast times?
Can someone explain why bekele is so much better than anyone else?

He's not necessarily better. He's faster, but being faster doesn't necessarily mean he's better.
-
I think he means what physical qualities does bekele have that provide an advantage for him....

People have gone within 2 seconds of the 5k and 5 seconds in the 10k of those times. That's about as close as Ngeny to Guerrouj and is closer than just about every record under the 1500 that I can think of. It's closer than the 3000, and closer than the marathon.

He had an amazing stride.

No one has gotten within 2 and 5 seconds of either record. Furthermore, the 10k is significantly weak. He could have run near 26:10 that day. That makes the gap even bigger. Just think, his tempo pace was only a tad slower than Rupp's 10k record. -
Both Gebreselassie and Komen ran 12:39, and Komen would have wooped Bekele if he'd been in his 12:37 race.
It all came down to who went last. Komen and Gebreselassie were aiming for 12:39 and ran the pace that would get them there.
When all-around GOAT distance runner Augustine Choge moves up to 10,000 in a few years, there will be a sub 26:10. -
He's great but his records are only about 2 seconds faster than Gebrselassie's -- less than .2 / lap for the 5k and less than a tenth for 10k so he's not much faster than Geb.

He might have beaten Bekele that day any other time Bekele would have beaten him

His best days are long gone as well -
Look at this stride analysis. You will understand why:

You must be trolling? You can't possibly take that nutjob seriously.
He is comparing the stride angles of short and tall runners in the most idiotic way. -

BS John. Learn some basic physiology, it's not about dope. World records will be broken with or without dope. Stick around, I'll tell you why, if you want to learn, but, you are a hotheaded fool who doesn't want to learn aren't you?
If the dope is so good and the testing so unreliable, how come distance races on the track are getting slower not faster?
Bekele is the best because he want to be the best. Basic psychology that your brain can't comprehend. -
That stride analysis of Solinsky didn't address that his stride would eventually tear his hamstring off the bone. It's not an efficient stride.

Here's the 10,000 top-15 list:
1 26:17.53 Kenenisa BEKELE
2 26:22.75 Haile GEBRSELASSIE
3 26:27.85 Paul TERGAT
4 26:30.03 Nicholas KEMBOI
5 26:30.74 Abebe DINKESA
6 26:35.63 Micah Kipkemboi KOGO
7 26:36.26 Paul KOECH
8 26:37.25 Zersenay TADESE
9 26:38.08 Salah HISSOU
10 26:38.76 Ahmad Hassan ABDULLAH
11 26:39.69 Sileshi SIHINE
12 26:39.77 Boniface Toroitich KIPROP
13 26:41.75 Samuel Kamau WANJIRU
14 26:43.98 Lucas Kimeli ROTICH
15 26:44.36 Galen RUPP
It's really not that spread out. I could see if Bekele was running closer to 26 flat that, then there'd be a considerable gap, but he's "only" 20 seconds faster than Tadese at #8 in a 6.2 mile race.
Here's what the 5 looks like - only a 10 second gap between Bekele and #7:
1 12:37.35 Kenenisa BEKELE
2 12:39.36 Haile GEBRSELASSIE
3 12:39.74 Daniel KOMEN
4 12:46.53 Eliud KIPCHOGE
5 12:46.81 Dejen GEBREMESKEL
6 12:47.04 Sileshi SIHINE
7 12:47.53 Hagos GEBRHIWET
8 12:48.64 Isiah Kiplangat KOECH
9 12:48.66 Isaac Kiprono SONGOK
10 12:48.77 Yenew ALAMIREW
11 12:48.81 Saif Saaeed SHAHEEN
12 12:49.04 Thomas Pkemei LONGOSIWA
13 12:49.28 Brahim LAHLAFI
14 12:49.50 John KIPKOECH
15 12:49.71 Mohammed MOURHIT*
I'd also agree with a previous post that both Geb and Komen, in their prime, would've given Bekele a decent run. -
that stride analysis of solinsky vs. bekele and others actually makes quite a bit of sense and the tight hip flexors it ascribes to solinsky would be connected to his tearing his hamstring.
-
in addition if you watch bekele when he beats tadese or many other races he has this powerful stride that seems to allow him to go a long way with limited effort. in other words, his much more powerful physique than other east african runners pays off with the long easy stride and then of course the power he can generate in that last lap.

The dope WAS GOOD. The doses are smaller and the testing is better. That's why you don't see the fast times anymore. 26:43, 26:44 and 26:46 are very 1994. It's all about the dope.

anyone that doesn't realize what was going on between 1994 and 2008 is very
naive
when it comes to athletic performance and $$$ and glory
DOPE is always the determining factor
it's that simple
