isn't Yelena isenbaeva the most sponsored? and the croatian high jumper too.
but both of them seem on the downsides of their careers
They both are starting families. The former was getting old, and both are nicely accomplished but in field events maybe age isn't necessarily a huge immediate detriment.
Maria sharapova was the hottest, quintessential eye candy tennis player. That Quebec chick, all respect to her and Quebec, is far from a stunner. Kournikova was overrated.
Brenda Martinez, Emma Coburn and Alexa Efraimson should be good for the sport. The latter is still young but if she focuses (ie increase) on healthy skin and white teeth she'll be the complete package.

Just like Mo, Bolt, and company, right? They worked really hard on their teeth to be stars, right?? FFS...
Genzebe is hottest of them all, but the language barrier is a problem for ads, although she is learning some English. However I kinda like that she doesn\'t speak English, it makes her more exotic and mysterious.
How about Meseret Defar? always smiling including when she has just set a world record, she has world records and has won many Olympic and world championship gold medals, you meet her for the first time and she makes you feel like a long time friend, great personality, speaks English well.
The Africans weren't marketable before the doping bubble burst (dying sport remember).
Even fewer people will buy into it now.

I second genzebe d, from what I can see from competition photos. As for Meseret Defar, I was surprised when a year or two ago she looked great in candids, sporting a classy outfit and makeup, at the IAAF awards gala. There's visual potential there for sure if they can have make up artists, publicists and staff on hand.
Google Forbes top earning female athletes and here is what you will see, in rank order based on endorsements.
1.Sharapova
2. Li Na
3. Kim Yuna
4. Serena Williams
5. Danica Patrick
End of discussion.
Emma is certainly accomplished as an athlete but having interviewed her, it feels like I am interviewing a member of the New England Patriots --canned responses. If i were starting a brand I'd want Kate Grace and Kara Goucher. They are far more "real" with their fans.Yes, I am also buying my wife Oiselle gear for Christmas. Putting my money where my mouth is.

Gotta say you can't lose with Brie Felnagle or Molly Huddle.
As far as American runners go, it's hard not to say Laura Roesler, especially after winning the Bowerman last night. Could become a legit medal contender and is as good looking as girl in track and field right now. Was a 10/10 last night.
I've had the chance to speak with Coburn at least three times and I have to say my experience is not at all like yours. She was quite at ease, natural, and forthcoming, much more so than some of the letsrun fan favorites.

Not really, has a lot to do with where they are from. Li, obviously, has a huge following being from a nation of 1.5 billion people. She would have very little marketability if she were from a small nation. She has a quick wit, and won a couple majors, but she's too homely to have a wide commercial appeal..
Sharapova is hot and has some charm, but she is also Russian/American. Serena is all based on her winning. Her personality is repellent. Yuna and Patrick, again, if they were from small countries with no media they would be nothing. Yuna would do okay, because she is a champion. But not Patrick.
I go with thug rose if she re-invented herself as classy rose. She is an exciting fighter in a fast growing sport and is very pretty.

How would Sharpova being Russian/American take away from her marketability? Wouldn't that in fact double her appeal?
Out of all the athletes mentioned in this thread she's an easy choice.

ummm... ever heard of Jordan Hasay?
First, Hasay needs to get treatment for her clear Anorexia and/or general eating disorder. Then she can focus on living up to her earlier running potential.
That's my point, dude. She has marketable qualities in addition to being in two giant markets.
